Rachael helps out with Phillip's Sunday School class once a month, and she has been asked to plan activities for a day at the Day Camp we're doing. There are a few older teens that help, too, but they are all kids that the youth pastor and/or Sunday School person has "approved". Another older teen has been planning activities for the kids about once a quarter on Saturday, and doing an excellent job of it. There is one young lady that has wanted to help in the library, but she has been politely turned down. I can understand why seeing how she interacts with my children.

Becky, in our church we are big in letting the teens help out.

Alot of churches down here are also big on teens helping too. They love it when the children ask to help with VBS. My dd is in American Hertiage Girls and she has to community service and to get one star they need 15 hours total. So, she is working so far at two different VBS for two stars and we had no trouble getting in to more if she wanted too.

I said what I said about registering, because around here it's a law that whoever works with the children HAS to be registered---that includes police background checks, etc. It's a safety precaution that's been put in place to help protect the children. And yes, there are people who get past the system, but if that system is in place, it can prevent some to many problems that could occur. I agree with Jen, any place that puts precautions up having to do with who works with the children is fine by me! I appreciate their concern and caution!

Any other jobs around the church people are very encouraged to participate in! That's one reason we liked and continue to like our church. People work together well, and the "load" doesn't fall to one person. We do encourage much participation in the programs and other duties, and have a praying, caring church! The teens in our church help with many different aspects of the church---they are mentored in different jobs, and sometimes even have a few who do short sermonettes to help get them used to speaking in front and to the aspects of running a church. After all, they are going to be in charge in a few years, so the more experience they have, the better!

God is good to lead those of us who have found them, to churches that meet our needs, as well as allowing us to be able to help them with our abilities! :D

Hey Jen I can relate to the ring thing, My wedding band was cheap too, because I also agree its not about the ring, and we could use the money elsewhere back then especially. My set broke, Hubby still has his and asked if I want him to give me his, ( it almost fits) but I told him no cause he is out there working in the world and I was not. Who's gonna flirt with me anyway? lol, But I have had a few people who you could just tell they were wondering when I was at little league games! I am the one who takes the kids to games, practice and everything , hubby works and has other stuff usually bible studies so I guess in this day and age it is common for people to think you are not together when one is there then the other or occasionally. Now hubby and I make a point to hold hands or kiss on the cheek when we see each other at a game Lol.
Some day I want a new set or to get the ones I have fixed. But what do you do?

Be careful, T'mom, if he's wearing a ring and you're not! They might think he's married, but not to you, and those kids are his on the side! Now-a-days, you can't assume ANYTHING!!!

Being a single mom I get asked alot of times about having a husband I just reply with the fact that I have alot less drama in my life without one/him. Now being a mother to a biracial child is another thing..I have been asked all kinds of things from "where did you get her?" my reply: umm My body.. "what country is she from" Me: Um USA; "Did it take you long to get her" as in adopt..Me: No about 9 months thats all my baby needed. I can and will be turned off to a church just by this, please do not assume just because I have a biracial child is she adopted.

Jackie, thats true you can't assume anything these days! But I think the fact that I am the one with them all the time and they look SOOO Much alike and like Michael and Me both hehe. I kid you not! You can really tell we are a family!
Even the kids have noticed while looking in rearview mirrors ( they don't know that each of them has done this with me driving the car and told me) that they look alike and it is scary to them hahah. Like "Whoa, I thought that was --- in the mirror but it was me! " lol rofl no kidding! hahaha

Right as he went to turn and go back to his room he asked his reflection 9In the mirror), "Did you see that!!??!" Then, I swear he jumped 5 feet within seconds from realizing it was HIM.!

I wish I had a cam goinf at that moment!

it's that time of year again.. Sami's tan makes her skin so dark. people ask me similar questions. They can tell she is mine cause our features are SOOO similar (this last haircut of hers makes me think I'm looking in a mirror in a time warp when I look at her!), but I get questions from total strangers about her father and why he isn't here and what *IS* his nationality anyhow?? Usually they just walk up and say, "Is her father Hispanic?" A friend heard the question the other day and said I should start answering by pointing at their chest and say "Are those real?" LOL I'm not sure I could say that with a straight face!
