I'll try to find documentation, but Alaska just passed laws making it illegal to sleep in one's car. I think other states have similar laws. And it's a blanket "no sleeping in the car" law. Which means these states have signs up at highway rest stops that say "no sleeping." And that's half the point of a rest stop. lol. (in other words, even travelers can't pull over a doze in order to be fresh for a long drive)

That is all so stupid...just stupid. Are they in league with the local hotels so all travelers have to stop for the night? lol. Seriously, that is a ridiculous law. I'd rather risk the fine than fall asleep driving.

In cases like Patty mentioned, you take the man's car away (since he couldn't pay a fine so likely they would impound his car) and he cannot work. So what...he's supposed to smoke crack and knock up some woman to get higher on the housing list instead of work a day job?

OK, mine doesn't ask for citizenship. It asks name, age, birthdate, sex, race (and I'm amazed at how many "races" there are! I don't consider Japanese, Korean, or Vietnamese as a "race"). It also says that HISPANIC ORIGINS are not races, but a seperate question with the origins (ie: Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, etc.). Then the Hispanic person also needs to mark race in the next question. So what would they mark? White? Other? Then it asks if this person sometimes lives or stays elsewhere, and has you mark where (and "jail" is included, lol!).

Since, when you total it up, I've spent over one year of my life on an airplane, maybe I should indicate 'plane' or 'airport' as somewhere else that I live.

Yep, whether or not you're a citizen isn't even asked.

And some of us are upset that there aren't enough races listed, and others are upset that the specific races listed have in the past been used against a particular race. Something about not being able to please all of the people....

Exactly. Maybe they should just allow you to fill in your own race. Oh wait...someone may complain they have to write something down. lol Just kidding ladies...not ripping on anyone..just trying to be funny.

Again, I had to fill in the race of my kids...didn't bother me. I have more important things to be annoyed by..lol.

You're not alone. I've never had one either...at least not that I remember. Mine must have been a short form. All it asked were the number, whether or not we were Hispanic, race and that was about it. I'm still not sure why "Hispanic" isn't being considered a race, though. :?

Ok, I just double checked my form. There is no "race" question, only if you are of Hispanic decent. And if you are, then you mark with 'flavor' of hispanic. How odd.

I know hispanics who did not want to be called mexican if they were puerto rican or the opposite or whatever. They would consider it an insult. Not saying this is why the census has this approach.

To be clear: There was no place for the 'rest of us' to indicate our race. It was only 'are you hispanic? y/n' then 'if yes....'

I just put it in the mail, so I can't give you the exact wording. lol.

That's weird. Mine DID ask race. Question 8 asked about Hispanic, and, as Amie said, what "flavor" of Hispanic. Then question 9 asked for race.

I had the Hispanic and the "flavor" ..lol..on there..but I also checked off Caucasian for myself and African American/Black for my husband. Then I checked "other" and wrote bi-racial for my kids.

Mine clearly asks for race in a separate question from asking if you are Hispanic.

I marked non hispanic for all of us, then white/Caucasian for myself then the Black/African Am. box for DH. Then when I got to the kids I marked both white and Black for them (it didn't say I had to pick only one)

Ah..you are right....it didn't say to pick one..I could have just checked off both. Oh well.

Oh and if all of you are saying one thing...then maybe I am wrong about how my form was set up...I know mine did have you check off races...but there may have been a seperate thing about hispanic..I think I misunderstood what you all were saying as far as layout.

Growing up I always marked hispanic because I am not completely Mexican and I do not consider myself Mexican American because I am American. So I ended up checking Mexican American in the first box and White in the second. It was silly because I am not white but I am nothing that was listed and I had no clue what to put in the blank.
I did the same for Ems. I had no clue what to check for her. Handsome is Irish and Welsh (or is it Scottish?) and I am a combo.

Mine said nothing about citizenship either. In fact, nobody I know of personally has received a census for 2010 that asks anything about citizenship.

Here's something, since they're not asking about citizenship. The numbers help define representation in the House of Representatives, correct? So if they've got a high concentration in a certain area, but those numbers are not citizens, would that area possibly be over-represented? I don't know, I'm just wondering....
