Many homeschoolers aren't aware that there are hundreds of contests out there that are open to homschoolers. Some can be done as individuals, some you need to get a group together. My kids and our homeschool group have done a large number over the years and I would really encourage some of you to try too. Contests challenge kids to do better, they show you how your kids really stack up against 'schooled' kids (very well, has been our homeschool group's experience) and some of the contests carry money prizes. I have written a Squidoo lens explaining the ones we've done - Contests for Students and in the past few days I discovered a new math and a new science contest that are both free and look great. I blogged about them on my blog at merylvdm.wordpress.com. These last two are for kids in elementary / middle school, but the other link has ones for all ages. Meryl
The local fair is a good place too. I am considering letting my boys enter into the fair next year. They can enter art, lego designs, cookies, etc.
