Anyone go to the CHAP conference in Harrisburg, PA this past weekend? We actually went to a couple of the seminars this year - last year was our first year to homeschool so we spent the whole day being overwhelmed by the curriculum choices. Did it seem like there were less people there this year - it did not seem as busy to us.

No. I never get to go to CHAP b/c we have a standing out-of-town-guest each year. I do get to go to SEARCH.

SEARCH is much closer to me too, so I don't have spend $$ on hotel stay.

They moved SEARCH last year to a new location now (not at Quakertown Christian School anymore!) and it's literally 10 minutes from my house. WHOOOOHOOOO!!!!

I'm sending my registration this week.

I think there are a lot of folks who used to make the trek out to CHAP that don't now that SEARCH is closer to them. Maybe not.

I've heard CHAP is HUGE HUGE HUGE, though.

    What's it like??

I didn't go - but a friend of mine did and loved it - apparently picked up some great stuff like what she was looking for.

I think the only thing I'm going to go to this year is the Catholic one here in Virginia June 12-13 since I don't have a long drive to go there.

Nope, we never go to the conference. Sometimes I'm curious as to what is there, but then I think of the money to go and that I could be putting that into other school things and my mind changes quick.

I spend lots of time online looking at curriculum and thing to use for school, and feel I find more than enough that way.

I use to go every year, but I've skipped the past two. Four years ago, I noticed that some of my favorite vendors had not returned. The following year, even more were missing. I wasn't that impressed with the seminars either those last two year either. It seemed like most of them were just run by vendors promoting their product. I enjoy hearing about their products and their ideas, but I stopped by their displays on the main floor for that. Anyway, the price became prohibitive too; admission increased and then they separated the price of the conference from CHAPs membership, so you were no longer getting the two for one deal. I hate it, because I loved. That use to be my Mother's Day gift. My husband would get off early on Friday to care for the kids. I'd take off to the conference to spend the afternoon, and then I'd go back early on Saturday and stay all day. I'll have to google "SEARCH" and see if it is within range for me. I don't NEED curriculum fairs; I can find what I need on the web, but it is fun to look!

SEARCH is in Souderton (google it) and I think it's about 1 1/2 to 2 hours from Lancaster. Which I'd imagine is further than Harrisburg is from you. www.searchofpa.org . Looks like a few good speakers - no Susan Wise Bauer this year, though! Or Ginger Plowman! Last year was really good. Mary Hood is coming, looking forward to hearing her.

IF YOU COME...please let me know! I'm going b/c it's 10 minutes from my house!!! I'd love to meet some Homeschool Spot people IRL!!! :D

I just looked it up --Father's Day weekend! I don't know if I can infringe upon my husbands weekend and leave him with the kids. I get to do something alone on Mother's Day weekend, and on Father's Day weekend, my husband goes fishing for a day. (We find that contemplating and celebrating the joys of parenthood is best done without the children around to spoil it!) Sometimes he takes his fishing day on Saturday and sometimes on Sunday. I'll run it past him, and I certainly let you know if I decide to come this year.

Yes. I hate that all the PA Fairs are on the "Parent's" weekends!

Thankfully for us, they moved the SEARCH fair so much closer that hubby is agreeable to me being gone for most of the weekend b/c I come home at dinner time! LOL :D

Keep me posted. I totally understand if he says no. If it's enticing at all they have a HUGE (and when I say HUGE, I mean MASSIVE) Used book sale with LOTS of stuff...tempting you tempting you! LOL :D
