We've used English for the Thoughtful Child with my youngest. Queens homeschool has some really great stuff too. You can look at samples of the curriculum on the website as well. Right now we are using Easy Grammar but would totally switch to Queens homeschool Grammar if I had the funds. They aren't expensive, I just have 3 kiddos that would be doing three differant levels and I don't want to fork out the cash.
I've used English for the Thoughtful Child, too. Also, Queen Homeschool has some good ones, the first being Language Lessons for the Very Young. It's great for Kinder/First.
I'm planning to use Primary Language Lessons followed by Intermediate Language Lessons. This program is said to follow the Charlotte Mason approach very well.
Depending on Age, I like First Language Lessons of the Well-trained Mind for starting out. (1st & 2nd). I've always switched right after that, to a strict grammar (ie Easy Grammar), but....I like that for a foundation.
Simply Grammar is supposed to be a modern remake of Miss Mason's own grammar book. I think we are going to be using First Langauge Lessons by Susan Wise Bauer (The Well Trained Mind). It has a rather CM feel also. Now I'm not so sure I'm impressed with her Writing With Ease, which is supposed to go hand in hand with it. I just think it's not something worth the money, I can pull my own questions from literature for narration, and my own sentences for copywork as well... and be able to pick which books we want to read, not have to read specific books because WWE says we need to.
I've used Simply Grammar. (Actually, I think I still have it. I'd be willing to sell it if anyone is interested....) It was OK, but I've found most Charlotte Mason language more hit-and-miss for my liking. Which is strange, because I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE "whole language", and I think she was the original "whole language" advocate, lol! But my kids have such a much stronger grasp of grammar after doing R&S and Easy Grammar!
