    Hey there :)

My name is Sara and I am from South Louisiana. This is my first year homeschooling and it has been quite a roller coaster.

I pulled my children out of public school because of the strong need for "medicating" my child as the only way to educate him. I know my son and had him properly evaluated, and he was not a candidate for these medications... long story short, I pulled him and my daughter out of school and now, we are learning how to home school ... haha...

The kids are learning me and I am learning them. All in all, we are all learning in this house!! LOL.... I NEED HELP! hahaha...

I have some family that home schooled but alas, they are not with in driving distance and run a doctor's office. We went through several systems but now we are using TimeforLearning.com, Bob Jones academy and a variety of books for reading that my children are eager to read.

I also help teach the Sunday school once a month at our church and I am an artist that sells my art at fairs from time to time so to say the least, our home is busy but full of love

I can't wait to start chatting with ya'll to see what good advice/suggestions I will be blessed with!!

Sorry about my rambling on ... I tend to be long winded ... ;)

    Welcome!

We're all about long-winded here, so pull up a chair and make yourself at home. ;)

Is there anything in particular you need help with?

    I would regardless.

I have sons ages 10, 8, and (barely) 7 and they all do history together. They would be doing science together, as well, except that I let them choose their own focus this year and they all chose different things.

Mine get social studies *through* history. We're focusing on American History this year and it's an easy tie-in to civics. Plus they're getting hands-on social studies by actually living in society (rather than in a school building away from it).

This year, my oldest is doing biology (flying creatures) and my 8yo is doing astronomy. These are both Apologia courses. My 7yo is doing LifePacs grade 1 science, which is really a basic life science.

Hi PaintedMaiden, my family is in Dulac, south of Houma. When my kids were young we did lots of reading that related to history & science. I let the kids explore whatever interested them when it came to history and science. We checked out tons of library books! Our librarian knew us on a first name basis...LOL.

If you are on facebook, we have a big homeschool group called Houma Homeschoolers. I believe their are some families from Morgan City and the surrounding area. You might want to check us out. :)

I have heard of LifePacs! I think I am going to look into them ... and that is a good idea. I think History is a great idea... I was considering American History or our State History... I wasn't sure what to do first....

You should get together with Houma Homeschoolers! The group always has fun stuff going on!

Are you talking about the hard facts for science and history? If so I would say yes.

Hi and welcome, Painted! I'm from SouthWEST Louisiana!

I have a tiny private school where I school Other People's Kids (finishing up our 13th year). Used to homeschool DS, but now schooling his DS!

I used Lifepacs almost exclusively with DS, but now I mostly favor Christian Light Education (in workbooks similar to Lifepacs, but SO much better) and Rod & Staff (in textbooks, whose science I currently favor over CLE's). I still use some Lifepacs, depending on the student, and also -- reluctantly -- use some ACE, depending on the student. I've also used a little Bob Jones, a lot of Abeka, and quite a bit of Christian Liberty.

Don't worry a bit about longwindedness... just jump in and be part of the group.
