I need help. My 15-year-old son has always been a deeply thoughtful child. Last night, he came to me asking some profoundly thought-provoking religious and philosophical questions about Christianity vs. other religions; about whether or not a spirit realm exists; about the existence of organized religions; and more. He is yearning to learn more about what others believe outside of our Christian faith, and I want him to be able to learn more and to have those discussions, within a Christian worldview framework. We are at a point now where our usual family devotions from Our Daily Bread are not enough. He knows the "who, what, and where" but he wants to know the "why and how?" I am searching for resources that will allow him to explore, to challenge him, to grapple with who he is and his place in this world. Do you know of any resources we could use to get started?
I highly recommend str.org. They have an amazing Ambassador curriculum and tons of free resources. They also have an entire section for students. Great apologetics website.
Most Christian Bookstores have books that contrast and compare the world religions from a Christian world view. I loved to study such things when I was in Jr. High, and have revisited it many times later in life also.
But Don't All Religions Lead to God by Michael Green is a good starting place as it provides a simplified overview. I also highly recommend, How to Be Your Own Selfish Pig by Susan Schaeffer- McCauley. In addition, http://www.thegreatbooks.com/read_list provides a great reading list for Christian Worldview. They also have a curriculum in which students read and analyze classical writings representing different worldviews.
I think Josh McDowell has something, too, but am not sure what. Josh McDowell is great for intellectual kids.
