I wanted to share a web site with any of you using or needing cloth diapers. My cousin just opened an online store selling her home made diapers.

Anyone interested, please check it out. Maybe you'll find something you like. Thanks.

WOOT! I just bought a new stash of newborn/small dipes, but I'll be needing more mediums/larges and I doubt I'll feel inclined to make anymore.

Well, I hope you find something you like. I'm sure she'd really appreciate it, but don't feel obligated if there is nothing you like.

Is it a lot of work to make them? I really know very little about it as I do not sew and have never used a cloth diaper.

I really like the idea though, when my kids were small I don't remember hearing about them very much.

I love them all and want them all and they're priced just the same as other WAHM Mades, so if I'm going to order, I may as well order form her ;)

They are actually not hard to make at all, just time consuming. It usually took me a solid hour per dipe. Of course, I made mine with Velcro, so it went a little faster than if you have to line up and set snaps.

Those are really cute and for the really brave! I applaud anyone that is brave enough to battle cloth diapers.

I actually find it far less inconvenient than disposables. I think every parent goes through the oh-shoot-this-is-our-last-diaper scramble.... at least once every couple of months. lol. Most people frantically run to the store. I throw in a load of laundry. ;)

Not to mention that there really is no battle at all. I simple throw them in a pail (after spraying them off if it was a #2), then throw them in the laundry. No trouble at all.

And of course the environmental, financial, and health benefits make it totally worth it.

(Sorry, I'm a HUGE cloth diaper advocate. I spend a lot of time educating parents about the reality of cloth diapers, which is nothing like the perception.)

Actressdancer- Do you know if you are having a girl or a boy? I have some girly prints that my MIL made for me. I'm done with diapers and looking for some one to sell them to. PM if you want more info!

It take some dedication and patience. It really can save you a lot of money and it is much better for the environment.

Do they even have diaper services anymore?

Thanks so much for your input. Do they still offer services for diaper laundering? How many does a parent usually need for one baby? I am just curious as I haven't had little ones in a while and actually don't know very much about it.

I am not aware of diaper services around here, but I know some major cities have them. IMO, it defeats the purpose as far as convenience and cost go (diaper services are quite expensive).

How many you need depends a lot on how often you wash. Most people suggest 2-3 dozen for a newborn, but I've always gotten away with about 15. That's all my old washer would wash effectively anyhow, so there was no point in having more.

I recently wrote a report about the differences between disposables and cloth. During my research I found a lot of statistics about price. Even considering the extra laundry and initial purchase (which, if you have multiple children, you only have to do one time) the average cloth diapering family saves $350 a year over a disposable diapering family. Times that by two - three years (or four if you have late potty learners. lol), then by how many children you have and that's a ton of money for someone's college fund.

Add in the environmental and health benefits and you've got a win/win situation.

I LOVE my cloth diapers! I don't have to battle allergic reactions to who knows what in the disposables and I don't have to spend a fortune on diaper ointment because of rashes due to lack of breathability. I've spent maybe a grand total of 100.00 on materials to make my diapers (I figured if they are already good for the environment why not make it better by using recycled materials as well) and I only have to wash every second or third day depending on how much he goes. They really aren't much hassle at all!

I still applaud anyone. I was such a nut about having enough diapers in the house and car that I had no less than a full pack in each at any given time. My mom did it was my youngest little brother and I was always scared of getting him with the pin. They've certainly upgraded the cloth diaper so it is more efficient and easier to use, but thankfully I'm way out of the diaper stage and I'm NOT having anymore kids!
