I'm sure we've covered this subject in the past, but I need a new one (or a mechanic). To front load or not??????

I chose a top loader (debated forever about it) a few months ago, Whirlpool. Happy with it.

I have no idea what we have, but it's a top loader. Having a front loader scares me, as I am often remembering to throw things in after the washer has already started.

I have a front-loader. I can pause it, but it's not a good idea once the water has started. I tried it once. I love it though -- not having to adjust the water level, being more energy efficient and feeling like my clothes are cleaner (at least they small cleaner).

Are front-loaders more prone to break, or is that just with CD players? I have always had a top loader one.

Very Good Point about the tossing in items later.

A few months ago dh went out and bought a new washer and dryer because ours broke. I think it's a GE. That sounds so dumb - I don't even know what brand it is! LOL! He went to the store, picked it out, brought it home and installed it. As long as it works I'm a happy camper.

If you get a front loader use Tide HE 3x Concentrated. It is the best HE detergent. I used to like Cheer HE and Gain, but Tide out does them all.

Oh yes! I didn't think about that. I am always stopping mine to load things in or opening it to get something out I don't want rung out. Good thoughts! Anyhow, Whirlpool is pretty much all of our appliances.

Amen to that! I also have a top loader. I honestly am not sure what the difference is for each. Not sure is one is better than the other. I know I am happy with mine.

I was told to expect mine to last 10 years. I got 13 from my old top-loader, but it hadn't been at it's best in several years.

Front loaders are more energy efficient. They sense the weight of the load and adjust the water level for you. They also use HE detergent, which leaves much less soap residue in your clothes.
