Our paper has a teen written section that appears each Thursday. One young guy writes outrageous columns, but I guess he's covered by free speech. I think he needs to be put in his place. Anyway, this week he wrote about how, since he is 18, he should be able to sign himself out of school at will. He tried this, he and some buddies. They fought the administrators at school and won. They signed themselves out, got lunch, and he went home to take a nap. I went to school the same day this article appeared, to sign my son out 10 minutes early. I had to sign a paper, give a reason for the early dismissal, and when I had no reason, the principal and vice principal had to okay it. Get that- they had to okay me picking up my own child. I explained that I was returning from appointments and happened to be passing the school, so I thought I'd take my son home with me. They looked at me like I was nuts. They played games so long it was his regular dismissal time when we left, but now he has an early dismissal on his record.
The last time I looked, I am way past 18,and I've been my son's mother for 17 years. So why is it some punk kid can just walk out of there because he is 'of age', but I can't just show up a mere 10 minutes early for the first time ever to take my son home?

They won! Wow! They are 18 though. That's crapy that they put down an early dismissal on your son though...I probably would have fought that;) SOOOOOO irritating!! I feel for ya.
