We have a small "co-op" on Wednesdays. Not really a co-op; there's a retired English teacher that teaches high school English classes all day, and he's been joined by a nurse who teaches the sciences. Today the class was moved to the Township Hall, because the church we usually meet at was getting ready for their Thanksgiving celebration. So after Phillip's General Science, they asked the teacher if they could go outside to the "lever" (ie: teeter-totter, lol!). Not until they were able to tell her it was a "first class lever", lol! So a bunch went outside and started playing basketball. One girl with them, who is a REAL tomboy. I looked out, saw Phillip with them, and decided they were being harmless enough. I mean, kids 11 to 14 shouldn't need an adult watching them play basketball, right?

WELL, next thing I know, Sam's running in saying Emma, the one girl, has cracked her shoulder!!! I (being the only adult right then) went out to check on Emma. She's sitting on the ground in obvious pain. I send Sam back in to search for a cell phone. Her twin came out with a phone, dialing his mom. But he didn't know what to say, so I took the phone and explained what had happened. She called the squad (which is located right across from her house; her family knows many of them by their first name!). They came, decided it was probably cracked or broken, and took her to the hospital. Emma's mom had arrived right before the squad. At first she was going to follow them to the hospital, but changed her mind and decided to go in the squad, because Emma sort of fell apart once she got inside. She had been doing VERY well holding it together until that point!

In the mean time, Sam's mom arrived, and was all concerned that Sam hadn't been acting appropriately. Now Sam is a good kid; all these kids are, really! I told her that, from what I could figure out, Phillip passed the ball to Sam, Emma jumped to intercept it, and she and Sam hit shoulders. it was one of those things, no one's fault. The only other girl in class was in tears over the whole thing (even though she wasn't outside at the time). The science teacher had took off to the store between classes, because she found out it was a kid's birthday and thought she'd buy donuts. She came back to find both a firetruck and squad with sirens and lights. She says it's the LAST time she goes ANYWHERE during the day again, lol!

WHEW!!! That's the kind of excitement I could easily do without!!! She'll probably be home before dinner, with a sling.
