My kids are both obsessed with comic strips right now, and I was looking for something fun for them to get in the mail. Does anyone know of any regular comics publications or inexpensive kids newspaper type mailings? I'm not talking about the regular comic books with action figures and such, they like the type of funny comic strips that come in the newspaper, like Peanuts, Garfield, Over the Hedge, etc.... I'm thinking about getting them some of the books that have a collection of comic strips, but getting a regular mailing would be more exciting and long term. Thanks!
I don't know of anything that comes in the mail, but my son likes to go to gocomics.com to read his favorite comic strips. You can register and get comics sent to your email--- kind of the same thing, right? http://www.gocomics.com/explore/comics We also have a comic strip app for our tablet that's pretty much the same thing.
Thanks for the post, Shelley! My kids will enjoy that site. I haven't been able to find what I was looking for either. I guess I'm old fashioned and have fond memories of anticipating and getting things in the mail. But times change!
LOL I freely admit that one of the main reasons I do most of my shopping online is that I love to get stuff in the mail!
Oh yeah, same here! I'm an obsessive tracking number watcher too--it's almost here! lol You know what? I think I'll just make my own weekly newspaper for the kids with weekly comics, news stories, games, etc... I can print it, and it will be nearly free.
My son loves to "draw" his own comic book charicters and for his birthday I got him some empty books and colored pencils and a couple of books from amazon that teaches how to draw them...... I think one of the sets I got with the instructions had the blank book (with squares for each panel) http://www.amazon.com/Fanboy-Make-Your-Comic-Book/dp/B00246QA1Q/ref=pd_sim_b_4 http://www.amazon.com/The-Blank-Comic-Book-Panelbook/dp/1477504435/ref=pd_sim_b_2 http://www.amazon.com/Art-Kids-Strips-Create-Finish/dp/1402784740/ref=pd_sim_b_1
Thanks ABall! I was thinking about getting a book or two like that for Christmas about drawing comics. My older son already has a bunch of comic strips that he writes regularly, so I know he'd love that sort of thing. So far I've just printed off some free pages. He was making his own, but asked for some printed ones. http://zakkalife.blogspot.com/2011/01/kid-craft-comic-books.html http://innerchildfun.com/2013/05/free-printable-blank-comic-pages.html So far, my newspaper thing has gotten waaaay out of control! hehehe Now I have a big folding folder/binder thing all labeled with my sections, and have been printing stuff like crazy! My gosh, I can't do anything simple! GAaaaaAh! It is turning into more of a magazine, when all I had to do was print...some...comics....lol
Ok, this is way too cool not to share! I found an easy way to make your own paper online. Might be a great project for some kids! http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/interactives/Printing_Press/
