My daughter is going into first grade and her handwriting needs some work.

I thought I would give copy work a try.

Where do you get or what do you use as copy work?

Are there any sites I can print some from?

I like the stuff in the Scribe System: http://www.historyscribe.com/

I accumulated all of them, mostly from currclick.

I also like the Startwrite software where you can make your own using what ever you want.. parts of books they are reading or words of wisdom etc.

I choose my own. Sometimes she will do a selection from literature, sometimes Bible, sometimes poetry. I use large lined paper.

I'm a fan of Happy Scribe, too. I suppose in some ideal world, I would generate my own, but this whole limited-to-24-hours-in-a-day thing seems to get in the way.

Anyway, I have several Happy Scribe collections, and I find between them, I can find copywork that is relevant to history, or bible study, or my son's interest, or something.

I also really like that each file contains both print (block print and d'nealian) AND script. So it's not like a use once/wait for the next child thing. I'll be able to continue pulling from the collections I have next year when my oldest starts script and my next-in-line continues with print.

I like the Pentime workbooks. The first of each two-page lesson is letter formation. The second page is copywork. The content of the copywork varies by grade level - one is animals, one butterflies, one States, and so on (don't ask me which is which - but I think 4th is States). They're available from Rainbow.

I used paragraphs from the easy readers. As they got older, I would use paragraphs from history or literature, sometimes from science.

I like to have my son dictate a story I write it down he copies it. That way it's two birds one stone. Or sometimes I just pick a sentence about what we are currently learning. Add something funny in there to lighten the mood once in awhile. If she is reading it to herself it's fun to see their expression when they get something funny instead of the same old same old. :)

Ems uses her history, poetry, or reading books to copy important or informative information.
