these adorable hats. My grandsons are both having a birthday in the next two weeks and my DD asked if I had ever crocheted hats. I told her I would look it up on the internet and over 30 hats later I found a basic pattern. From that I was able to take the photos of other hats and tweek them into these.
I thoroughly enjoyed making these and can't wait to do more. My DH wants me to sell them for $15.00 each. What do you think? It only let me post 5, there is one more. (My favorite one.)
Oh, the sock money one would sell BIG TIME! Sock moneys are a huge thing right now. I think you could easily charge $15!
I love the owl one!! I think they'd sell for $15. Check on etsy.com to see what similar hats are going for.
Can you make them in different sizes? I assume these are kid's sizes, but I'd LOVE the frog for my best friend. I'd happily pay more for a bigger size, if you think it's doable.
I love, love, love the sock monkey and owl. $15.00 is selling yourself a bit short. Take into acct the actual length of time and yarn used. I also think making larger ones would be popular too.
I can make any size, I just need two measurements to adjust my pattern I can make two an evening. These 6 were made in three days in my spare time (while watching tv with hubby and waiting for the dryer to sound off, lol.) I just need to factor in the shipping. It is doable if anyone is serious. Let me know, but don't post your address or other info on here. Do it in PM please.
Sorry, forgot to say what measurements. Use either a measuring tape, or a string/ribbon and then measure that with a ruler. Around the forehead - feel the base of your skull, put the string or measureing tape there and bring it together above your eyebrows. Across the crown - from the bottom of one earlobe, over the top of your head to the bottom of the other earlobe. I can also change features. The earflaps can have three types of ties - a braided tie, a straight crochet, or the curled crochet. I can also add feet to the straight crochet - refer to the ducky photo. I thought about doing that with the frog. I can change out the colors too. Such as on the frog, a lighter or darker solid green, or a different trim. Same with the owl. I have so many others also. >>> Panda, bunny, dragon, clown fish, reindeer, puppy, bear, lady bug, penguin, piggy, snowman, mohawk, cookie monster and elmo. My DD may regret yet that she asked me to do this, lol.
Nice work! Do you think you could line them with fleece to make them warm enough for a Canadian winter?
Lol, actually yes, that would be do-able. But they wouldn't stretch to fit, they would need to be fitted to the person's head measurements. The fleece is not as forgiving (stretchable). What a neat idea! I made caps out of fleece with matching scarves for Christmas presents a few years ago. I bet that cap pattern would work as the liner with just a little adjustment.
Cool! Spring should be here soon, so we don't need new hats right now, but for next fall/winter that would be great! I'll have to remember this
Since I love the act of creating this is not a problem. Anyone that wants something let me know. It's a win win for me. I get to craft, I earn grocery money, and it supports my addiction (crafts of any sort, lol). I can't explain how it makes me feel to see something envisioned come alive in my hands.
