I love: Ambleside Online (classic living books and great schedules) Teaching Textbooks (I've tried TT5 & TT7) Life of Fred (starting Fractions this year)
I also like saxon. We started this week and all we have been doing in math is the assesments. Both my girls have done assesments 1-3. I think I am going to go ahead and just start at lesson 25ish for both. TT definately sounds alot easier, but I like to do math with them. I feel more comfortable walking them through the problems, so if they have trouble, I know exactly where it is. Plus I let my older dd use a multiplication cheat sheet (she has such a hard time memorizing them). For science, we just started, but I really think I am going to like Real Science 4 Kids, and R.E.A.L Science Odyssey. I originally bought McRuffy Phonics/LA for my youngest dd, but it did not go well at all. So, I just ordered Explode the Code workbooks this morning. I hope that goes better. For history I bought Story of Us by Joy Hakim. I think it looks interesting, but my dd is not impressed. History is not her thing
Don't base how "good" your choices are on others' reviews. What works for one family doesn't work for another. And that's okay-that's what's so great about homeschooling! Some people are school-at-home/Traditional Textbook and it's a perfect fit for them. We are more unschool, and that's what works for us. Neither one is wrong. If something is working for you, stick with it, if it's not working, throw it out and find something else!
