Okay, I went and bought heart shaped coookie cutters. My youngest was with me and really wants to celebrate Valentine's Day this year. My problem is that not only do I not like the nuisance of rolling and cutting cookies, but I don't even like the taste of those kind (what are they? sugar or butter cookies, I can never remember). Are there any better recipes for cutout cookies? Dh doesn't like chocolate (I know, blasphemy, right?) so I don't want anything chocolately. Maybe lemon. We all like lemon, I think. What would I do - add lemon extract? I don't know! Help! I'm not a "wing it" kind of cook. I'm strictly a recipe kind of cook. Any good suggestions for non-chocolate cutout cookie recipes? TIA!
We don't make a lot of cut out cookies but when Emily really wanted to make them I bought the tube of sugar cookie dough and rolled it out after chilling it in the freezer for a few minutes. You can "flour" the rolling surface with powered sugar to keep them from tasting too much like flour.
What about gingerbread? Or as others have suggested you can make lemon sugar cookies by simply using lemon extract instead of the vanilla extract and grating in a little lemon zest. Using that same method you can also make orange cookies, or even maple cookies.
Amy I made a homemade turkey pot pie and had left over crust so got out a heart cookie cutters and put some melted butter and cinn. and sugar on them and cook them and it was big hit here..
make rice krispy treats...... you can use a cookie cutter for those too! or brownies, cupcakes........ my daughter is making the fundamiddles cupcakes and using valentine cupcake papers and the pack came with "picks"..... little harts on a toothpick... I think she is also going to put some "sprinkles" on before she bakes them.... because the frosting is in the middle. Eva is making brownies and using some stencils I got at the $1 spot at Micheal's to decorate with powdered sugar.
I am late to post, but thought I would add that we enjoy adding almond and mint extract to our sugar cookie recipe.
