I'm embarrasses to say this, but I haven't been to the dentist since I got married, which will be 17 years this summer. I have known for a while that I need to have some work done, but I've ignored it because we either didn't have insurance or money for the co-pays or both...but now, our circumstances have changed and I can get some dental work done because I have my CDIB (Native American) card and we live in the tribal area.
I've still been putting it off for several reasons-#1 because it's embarrassing to have gone that long without seeing a dentist. #2 because I know I'm going to need A LOT of work and it's going to take several appointments to get it all done. The stress of trying to juggle the kids and schoolwork is just not something I want to deal with right now. #3 because I am TERRIFIED of the dentist! and #4 because I am taking pretty large doses of blood thinners and I know I have to be off of them for several days prior to a dental visit, which scares me to death. The blood thinners are what keep me from having a stroke or another blood clot in my lungs!

Anyway, this weekend, my tooth started hurting really badly and hasn't let up too much. So, I'm going to have to suck it up and make an appointment. I tried to call on Monday, but they only make initial appointments on a certain day, so I have to call back on Wednesday to see when I can get in. Right now, the pain is mostly just a constant ache and I can tolerate it. I don't know what I'll do if it gets much worse because the blood thinners I take react with almost everything and there are very few things that I can safely take...

Would you please pray for me to, most of all, not be afraid? I know fear is not from God, so I need to just let him have that-easier said than done. Also, would you pray that the dentist would be nice and not be too hard on me for not coming in sooner? And, last, would you pray that God would protect me from the clots during the time when I'm off the blood thinners?

    Thank you so much!

Nothing to be embarassed about..... welcome to what I bet is a large group of people who fall into the same group.

I can't tell you how long it had been since I was last into a dentist (unless of course you consider the knee jerk effect when something happened). I brush my teeth ALL THE TIME and had thought that was sufficient but it wasn't. It took an M&M peanut to break a molar tooth and expose the nerve for me to realize that I needed the preventative maintenance to make sure that didn't happen again.

I hope that your experience with the dentist is a good one. Praying for you

I know how you feel... I am having trouble too right now. I have not been to the dentist in yrs because of no insurance either... don't be embarrassed about it. Praying that you can get in and it will be taken care of.

Thank you for asking! I actually can't call for an appointment until tomorrow. Hopefully, I can get in within a few days.

I asked God to make the pain bearable until I can get in and He has! Last weekend, the pain was so bad that the whole side of my face hurt all the way up to my ear. But, now it's pretty much gone back to normal. It doesn't hurt most of the time, just enough to remind me that I can't put it off and I HAVE to call Wednesday. :)

I'm still really nervous, but it's just one of those things I'm going to have to make myself do...

DOn't be embarrassed about not going to the dentist. We cannot afford it either. Dental ins has always been waayyyy too expensive through my hubby's work. We are struggling to pay braces for my oldest right now only because she really needed it. We have 9 more payments on hers then have the other two waiting in the wings. Youngest has her perms coming in very crooked.

I had a cavity or so I thought, a few months ago. Pain in ear, like yours. Got in for an exam and xray and Dr said it was a very small cavity that hadn't got to nerve. Said I should not even be feeling it yet. He did say that cavities like this in molars have pain due to stress/pressure from grinding teeth at night and I should try a mouth guard. I ended up letting it go and it stopped hurting altogether.

    Just a thought...maybe that's what's happening with your tooth?

just had to repost `affter reading your last one. Please do call and get it checked out. IT could turn out to be easy and it could be worse but take it from someone who has a mouth full of crowns, if I had not been to the dentist almost every year o fmy life I would have none. You re blessed that you have teeth that can be fixed. We are now looking at redoing old crowns that have been in as long as you have nto been to a dentist. I have teeth that are full cement and silver still with pins in them.
I don't tell you this to worry you but because its something that can get to the rest of your health.
My sis on the other hand goes as long as you and is loosing her teeth now. one at a time is breaking and falling out. IT is scary for her and she is a single mom. She has constant sinus headaches and infections and I am certain its due to her teeth.
Is there a dental school in your area? if so they do a lot of probono work if money is an option.
Second -- kids and school work? W brought our books with us to the dentist homeschooled in the office while we waited for cleaning and work to be done.
dont use home school as an excuse, (no offence here please just keeping it real) the kids can follow y ou in to the dentist room even or you can get a new dentist.
we have had kids sit while I had extensive work done , one with older sibling watching younger one, I just checked verbally on them as I could lol.
If I stopped doing dentist or schoolig for dentist visits I would not have the teeth i have today , Andif you look t my pic, I have a nice smile!
I am praying as I said that all works out to the good. in all aspects.

Please don't be embarrassed. I have terrible teeth (though they look pretty when I smile) and currently I am in need of five root canals plus some other stuff. I am also terrified of the dentist. I just tell the dentist to be slow and tell me what is going on and then I pray through my entire time in that chair. I go in a few weeks and I am not excited either.

    You'll be in my prayers.
