We might need to relocate to the Detroit area. I am used to living in a township in Ohio. Even though in my particular neighborhood the houses are close, we still have a country feel. (Some of our neighbors even have chickens). We can leave doors unlocked if we go to the neighbor's or a quick run to the store and not worry. I can't stand the thought of 5 kids in those teeny tiny yards like I've seen in Dearborn. Our current yard is 72 x 110 and I was hoping our next house would be on at least an acre. I can give up the dream of acreage for now, but I don't want to live on a postage stamp. Also, I realize close to a large city, you won't get as much bang for your buck regarding real estate but we are limited to about 130,000 max. I don't want to live in a bad, dangerous neighborhood just to say we got a good price. I'd say my husband would like to be about 1/2 hour away from Detroit. Any suggestions on nice, SAFE and affordable suburbs?

(As a side-note, I'd have to say this sudden situation has made my husband appreciate the flexibility that homeschooling has to offer!!)

Ok...I am terrible at geography. I mean just awful. lol. HOwever...would you be close to Farmington Hills? My dh's company's headquarters are there...he says it is very nice. Not sure it is very affordable though. Or...now again...I have no brain cells with a sense of direction outside of my own neighborhood....lol..or places I have been...lol...what about Lake Orian? I have a friend who lives there and I thought she said it was close to detroit. I could be wrong?? maybe she didn't say that. Anyway...Lake Orian is cute, quaint and country like. She loved it! She said it had a vacation home feel. Her husband is getting transferred so they are moving.

Ok...sorry if I am way off base...but that was all I could think of. I seriously would check out Lake Orian though. I know my friend was on a budget and she rented a nice house. Didn't buy because she knew it was a temporary location.

Ava, I just looked on a map and Lake Orian, is just north of Detroit. Farmington Hills looks closer. Just thought I would help since I know nothing about Detroit:)
