My little boy loves his dinosaurs and we read about them all the time. I was wondering if there are any books out there that have information about them in relation to creation. We are creationist and I would like to read to him about that perspective, instead of the one that includes evolution and multi millions of years. Thanks!
I cannot think of a specific title but I remember asking this when mine were younger. The Creation Museum, in Cincinnati, has resources and an online bookstore you can browse. (This is a BIG place that is worth a visit if you are ever up that way.) I know that they address dinosaurs in some form or another...perhaps in a section of the museum itself; but, if you look through the website you can find available resources. www.creationmuseum.org Also, if you are in a city with a Lifeway bookstore, we have always found the sales people to actually be very knowledgeable about what exactly IS on the shelves. "Dinosaurs by Design" is the one that comes to mind, but it's not written for young children. It would be great for you to read it, though, and is good for upper elementary (or younger fi they're good readers, or if they are interested in your reading it to them). And, as Miller said, the Creation Museum would have lots of resources for you.
This is a very hard topic for us. My son Noah (8) is OBSESSED with dinosaurs and can give more information on them than any paleontologist on the planet. It has been an issue from the beginning on how to handle the world's view of where dinosaurs came from, when they lived and how they died. When he was young and we had to read the 500 page dinosaur encyclopedia's from the library to him(he got really tired really fast of the "baby" dinosaur books even though he was 3 or so) we just skipped over the "MILLIONS OF YEARS AGO and THE BIG BANG OR BOOM" parts of the books and told him that God created the dinosaurs at the same time as the other animals and they are just extinct now because that is HIS plan. I tell him to think about how we could we live today with T-Rex and Velociraptors running around? He understands that the World views things different as does science. We have to keep to our faith and understand that not everyone believes as we do but that is okay as long as we know THE TRUTH. Go to Rock Solid Inc .com, Christian Book Distributors and also Amazon .com and search for dinosaur books. My sons books that are Biblically based are packed up at the moment(moving) or I could give you a few titles. Dinosaurs By Design is EXCELLENT! We don't worry about what the book says about evolution. We have discussed this with Noah and he understands what the truth is. Good luck!
Answers in Genesis has GREAT books for all ages that keep a Biblical perspective on dinosaurs. There is also a creation museum in Eureka Springs, AR (closer to you than Ohio.... but not by much. lol). It was set up by Ken Ham, the founder of AiG.
My daughter 7 loved dino's. We have Dinosaurs by Design and also The Great Ice Age. Great reading! I just tell her when they talk about "millions of years ago" that they are wrong because the earth is not that old. She wants to be a paleontologist so she can tell them the TRUTH!
Answers in Genesis and books by them. Also: Christian Answers and their specialty site: The Great Dinosaur Mystery which is also the title of another great book!
There might be some interesting things here for you and your son: http://www.did-u-know.org/ Secrets of the ICA Stones is more for advanced middle school, high school, or adults, but it's a fascinating study of thousands of dinosaur sketches on stones in Southern Peru. The implications of these stones has the "scientific" community trying to keep them hidden. Because of the interest in them, some local people have tried to duplicate them and sell them as originals. This does not mean that there were no authentic ones, carved several hundred years ago. Behemoth and Leviathan are mentioned in the book of Job. You could research what the Bible says about them. It's a great study! Have fun! And if you feel like it, let us know what you find.
