We didn't last summer because we moved in June, but we will be planting a small one this summer. I usually put in tomatoes, peppers, green beans & zucchini are the must haves! Are you planting a garden this year? Kristine
If DH gets my boxes built in the next week or so I'll be able to plant what I want this year (all Feb/March plantings). This will be my first garden. I always helped my mom with a flower garden as a child, but haven't had so much as a house plant as an adult. So we'll see how my veggie garden will work out.
I try every year and it never fails we get some kind of freak freeze or a drought and everything dies. But I keep trying every year. On the other hand I have a beautiful flower garden every year, but those darn veggies just do not seem to make it for me.LOL
We try to every year. We plant always plant onion and peppers. They did great. Last year we tried gaint pumpkins, starting them to late and they did not grow right. We also did letuce(for the bunnies), watermelons( we got several small one, yummy) cucumbers (they grew like crazy, I was giving them away 6 to 8 at a time) sunflowers that something ate. I think thats all we did. We love gardening. We will try the gaint pumpkins again this year. My son helps the neighbor grow them and we have tried our own for 2 years without luck, but hopefuly we have learn more and will be successful. We finaly have our flower beds around our house nicely done so they come up every year and all we have to do is take care of them. We love gardening!
We will this year. I have tons of things "planned." I expect some of them will just be fill-ins for the plants that don't make it. For example - the baby decided he jsut couldn't wait and ate a bunch of kohlrabi seedlings today...We have one of those small greenhouses where the plastic cover zipz closed. He got his little hand in there and a couple good handfuls of seedlings. Ah, well. We were planning to put the beds out and fill them Saturday, but now it's forcasting heavy rain all day, so we'll see.
We have in the past but this year I plan on using some of this land we live on..(22 acres) We are also ordering chicks in the spring. One year we had a hen hatch some young ones (What an awesome Science class we had) I actually hope to do this again. We also have apple trees and I am thinking of putting in pear or peach trees? But I will have to watch the deer.. We have a bit though since we are getting hammered with snow again. Lisa
I plant a garden every year. My favorite things to plant are tomatoes, beans, garlic, and herbs. We also have a orchard of about 40 fruit and nut trees. Last year I had to replant the pinto beans because the weather was so hot, I couldn't keep the soil moist enough. I still ended up with weak looking beans. :| This year I am going to plant them in pots on the side of the house. It gets hot but has filtered light with the trees.
We also plant a garden every year. Usually a ton of Roma tomotoes for sauce, wax and green beans, all sorts of peppers, peas, spinach, zuchinni, yellow squash, and winter squash. We also have an herb garden with mint, dill, oregano, sage, thyme, and basil. We've also had strawberry, raspberry, and blackberry patches for years. The kids love the fresh berries in season and the jam all year long. Carol
This year our strawberries are going in the front yard. As hard as I try, they do not have luck in the middle yard. If it isn't chickens, it is dogs, birds, or squirrels. A few years back we had some wonderful strawberries. Hopefully we will again.
I plant green beans, peas, lettuce, tomatoes. Last year, Phillilp had pumpkins, too. But usually something happens to where it doesn't do as well as we want. Oh, cucumbers, too!
Yep, square foot gardening! We plant lots of stuff. This is a previous thread about gardening Check it out, I forgot I put up a pic of the GardenOpoly game! LOL My kids love to watch everying grow too.
beans tomatoes peas cucumbers onions lettuce (of many sorts) cauliflower (sp) brocolli cabbage corn zuchinni pumpkins potatoes Last year we were in AK. I gave the garden a year off but this year back to it. We have 28 acres so my garden is huge. Lots of work but sooo worth it. When we are in the rv we have a small chest freezer and bring alot of our own food. Not to mention all the canned goods also.
