You might call it egg knocking, but in south Louisiana it's "pocking" and is a great tradition in some families. http://1079ishot.com/the-art-of-pocking-easter-eggs-in-south-louisiana-video/?trackback=fbshare

Some people hide/hunt first, then pock. Some the other way around. (not me!) In our family, when we gathered at grandmother's house, the cousins would end up in an egg fight with all the cracked eggs and make a horrendous (but very colorful) mess in the yard. Some do a very gingerly tap-tap-tap, but some go for the "kill shot" right away. The favored grasp is generally more like the grandmother's in the video - with the hand all the way around the egg, presenting only the tip for the battle. Often kids just hold it any kind of way, because to them the goal is to break som'tin! Sometimes people just put the cracked ones aside to eat later, but often the winner takes the egg they broke, as their prize.

I've known some very artistic people to take the broken pieces of eggshell and make mosaic pictures out of them, cleaning them carefully and gluing them onto some base, paper, cardboard, or what-have-you. Some years I've broken some of the shells on purpose, THEN dyed them, because the dye seeps through the cracks and makes some very pretty colored egg whites for use in egg salad or potato salad or deviled eggs for lunch! Other times I'll take the shells completely off and dye the whites all one color, for the same purpose.

Have never done it Lindina, but I think my nephews might get a kick out of it. Forwarded your video to their mom:)

My FB newsfeed is absolutely full of people's postings of their kids or grandkids pocking eggs yesterday... sometime video. I'm not sure who has the most fun - the kids or the grandparents!
