    stay in their jammies?
i have always been one to get up get dressed/makeup etc to face the day.
if i stayed in my pj's i would stay in bed and never accomplish anything
of course kids would love to live in their pj's
is this showing a lack of respect or am i being silly?

I'm like you, Huck. My kids are expected to have their beds made, hair brushed, and dressed before coming down to breakfast. That's just me; I see nothing wrong with teaching in your pj's if it works for you!

Well, I make my kids get dressed and even make their beds...brush teeth and hair before school. I, however, have actually started them on assignments in my pj's  and then ran off to get my shower. That is rare though. I like to be dressed and have make-up on before school if at all possible.

I usually have them get dressed and ready, have breakfast then start school. But some days when we're all tired we call a "Lazy Day", and I allow them to be in their jammies, and we're a little more laid back with what we do. It's kind of nice to just relax some every once in awhile, yet, they still need to show me and each other respect and get their work done!

We make it a practice to get dressed in the mornings before school. I have a home-based business and have always been told that they way you are dressed determines your mood. I believe this to be true- if I stay in my pajamas, I feel rather lazy and sloppy! I just feel more "professional" when I get up and dressed before coming downstairs for the day. Now, that's not to say that we always dress "up", just that we dress! LOL

Now, like Deena, we do have days when we do stay in our p.j.'s.......like, for example, when it's really cold in the winter and the pajamas are toasty warm, or if we're "pretending" it's Spirit Week and we decided to have a Pajama Day, or if someone just isn't feeling the greatest.

My dd is one of those kids who is self-motivated gets up, makes her bed, and gets dressed (and accessorizes  ) before she even comes downstairs. Ds....well, that's another story....he is a typical 9yo boy who would just as soon go 3 days without changing his clothes than bother with getting dressed. I have to keep an eye out to make sure he is in a different outfit than the day before... . We don't have any rules about getting out of pajamas first, but in general we all do it anyway before coming downstairs of a morning.

And, BTW, what's make-up? My husband tells me that I used to know what that is, but I got some strange amnesia when I signed my marriage license. Is this a common problem?

Last time I wore make-up was on my wedding day...HONEST!!! And my ppor Matron of Honor....she did me up in the afternoon the day before, and when I looked in the mirror, I burst into tears! It just WASN'T ME!!!! So she promised to "tone it down" for the wedding, which she did!

I like the idea of an occasional "P.J. Day". I think the kids would enjoy that! Now, as for me.....(glancing around to see who's looking over my shoulder!) I'm very lazy about putting a bra on during the winter unless I'm going out. I like to wear heavy sweaters/sweatshirts, or DH's heavier shirts. But as Rachael gets older, I'm afraid I may have to change that! I need to set a good example, but I think I can get away with it for at least one more year!

What is a lazy day?

Typically....the kids get breakfast, dressed & brushed and then we head to the gym for mom's time. 8) I workout and shower and then we carry on with our day.

I just like to get my day going and on days that we don't go to the gym we are ALL then dressed & brushed by the latest 8:30a.

As Flylady says...you aren't dressed if your shoes aren't on.

The breakfast is cooked and try to make hair is brushed and teeth is brushed. She can stay in pj's. I don't care. She is only 7. If we have somewhere to go after school. She is dressed before we leave. I am not picky about pj's. I just want the teeth brushed and hair brushed.

We get up make beds, take our showers and go on with our day. The day my kitchen isnt clean or we are in our jammies is when someone will show up unannounced so we prefer to be up showered and dressed.

Well, once again we are different! :) Whats new? LOL Our kids are allowed to stay in pj's. It goes back to dh being second shift. If we all take showers we will wake him up. ( Our bedroom is right next to the bathroom )

We start schooling around 9 most days and after lunch they get dressed while I take a shower. DH is normally up a few minutes before lunch so it all works out. They show him what they did during school and I get a few minutes to myself!

All of our friends/family know of him being second shift so we don't even get phone calls until afternoon and NOONE ever drops in on us. LOL That goes back to dh when we first got married! He told all of our families that he had enough respect for them to call and see if he could come over he expected the same from them towards us. So far so good.

as for that "m" word...I have not worn any since my wedding almost 9 years ago!

Some people care and some don't. I could care less if my kids stayed in pj's but if they are dressed in the morning then they're ready to go somewhere if we need to. I think that's a good reason to get dressed and ready. When I decide to go somewhere I don't like to wait for everyone to get ready.

As homeschoolers, who sees us all day except kids and other HS'ing moms? Who are we trying to impress with our make-up? Surely not our sink full of dirty dishes, :D !

My boys take turns at the breakfast table & bathroom. If they are both upstairs together, they talk & horseplay instead of getting ready. So one eats while the other is washing up & getting dressed, then they switch. I usually shower & dress before I get them up then straighten up the house, start laundry, etc. while they get ready. It just seems to help the day go smoother if I can get the household stuff under control before we start schoolwork.

I put off donning a bra as long as I can, and then I often opt for a sports bra.
