do you take them to get lessons? for piano. i would like for our children to learn piano, but i do not know it either. can we all learn together? what do you ladies do for music?
My two take piano lessons. I had 5 years of piano as a child, and I tried teaching it to them. However, it just seemed one of those things they took to better coming from someone else. I suspect if you look around enough you can find a piano teacher willing to teach all of you. In fact, studies show that when the parent(s) plays the instrument with the child, the child learns even more. I play the some pieces the kids are working on at least once a week with them while they're doing their daily practice.
Poppet loves music . She especially likes Karyn Henley. The Husband plays several instruments and I am an appreciater of music. We are really a noisy bunch ! I do incorporate music as much as I can in our daily life, as well as school. As far as Poppet learning to play an instrument, we'll just have to wait and see......
my girls do piano lessons too and they love it. we also have some kind of music going on here all the time when we aren't in school
Neither of my boys has the least interest in learning to play music. I've practically begged them to take piano or guitar lessons. Nothing doing. They do, however, love to listen to music. During the school day, my oldest always has the radio on to the classical station. I don't know where he learned to love classical, but that's his favorite genre. Last year one of his courses of study was music history where he studied the lives & works of all the composers. He thoroughly enjoyed it. My youngest has a leaning towards jazz. He especially likes the Charlie Brown music. I can't think of that guy's name right off the bat. Vince something? For his birthday next week, I have a CD ordered for him with the song "Little Birdie" on it (his favorite). So while they do not play, they both enjoy music in their own way.
Our son takes guitar lessons with his father. They have a homeschool special if one parent takes lessons with the kid it is half off of the regular price. So they are taking lessons together! Our daughter on the other hand is different. We bought her a cheap guitar and she did not like it so we sold it. We bought her the kids drumset by FirstAct and she loves it! Next year she will be old enough to take lessons. We almost always have classical music on while we are doing our school work. This year the kids asked to learn about different "music people things". So I bought the book Lets Meet Famous Composers and it looks like it is going to be good for both kids!
I am trying to teach music to my kids but I feel I'm weak in this area. I would love for them to take lessons for any musical instrument but they are a little shy right now to try. I'm still working on that. For music, we do a variety of things. We have a ton of instruments that they explore daily (recorder, flutophone, harmonica, tambourine, cymbals, drum, keyboards, melody harps, rhythm sticks, finger cymbals, etc). Then, we listen to lots of different kinds of music. I also have workbooks to use to teach basic music instruction. Something we just got I have fallen in love with! It's 2 books that tell the story behind classical compositions. The Farewell Symphony by Anna Celenza is great. It tells the story behind this composition written by Hadyn. It comes with the cd of the song. We also have her book Bach's Goldberg Variations. It also comes with the cd. Those came from www.veritaspress.com if you are interested in checking them out. Calvert has a great set of videos that teach music called Melody Lane that we love as well. And, we just got A Beka Music theory workbooks to try this year. Hope this all helps some!
We finished the Kindermusik program in May with ds#1 and he will begin piano lessons in a week or two. Lucky me....the lady next door is the music teacher at the elementary school that ds would attend and she teaches piano as well. So...we will test her out to see what we think. Dh said he could teach him to play piano and I'm sure he could but...it was a timing thing and he didn't start with him and....besides the fact that ds is homeschooled, I felt that you need some other type of instruction thrown in there every now and then.
Vicki is learning the drums. I want her to play the piano because I do. She has tiny fingers and that will be awhile.
Our boys take guitar with their dad, he plays very well, a friend gave guitar lessons and a guy went to the public school and gave lessons after school and when my husband teaches them all he knows we know someone else who gives lessons. Music is fantastic!
Ashley tried piano when she was younger and it just didn't seem to "suit" her at the time. But, she just started up again last week, and seems much more interested. So, we'll see how it goes. I'd love for Gracie to play the violin. But, she'd much rather play the drums! I don't know if I could handle the drums; so, we'll wait awhile and see if she changes her mind! (I'm really holding out for the violin!) We just got the book "Themes to Remember" by Marjorie Kiel Persons. It teaches the composers by using silly lyrics- so when you hear the music on something (say a commercial or whatever), you'll think of the silly lyrics and it will trigger who the composer was. So far, we only learned Antonio Vivaldi- but, it's so funny- little Gracie walked around singing the song for days on end! Now, if she hears just the music, she can tell you the composer's name! I'm going to have Ashley do a bit more research on each composer as well.
music lessons My husband is a really good drummer and he teaches my 2 boys. My house is a very loud house.
