I had an iBook G4, upgraded to a Macbook Pro 13" last month, and I really enjoy it. Macs usually cost more, but it really depends if you need one. For example, if you only use the laptop for the internet and office applications, a netbook might be good, they run about $300. If you use some games, or do photo/video editing, or just want a more comfortable size, a low to mid range laptop might suit you, generally they cost under $600. If you do a lot of things at once, use graphically demanding applications, or handle massive files, a mac or high end PC laptop is probably for you. The major difference at that point is what you do more. PCs have more flexibility. They come with more fun stuff such as audio control buttons, nifty built in features like card readers, and have a lot more USB and other ports. Generally they have the same tech specs as a mac, but because all the pieces are third party they don't always get a long together as well. They usually run about $1000 - $1300 for a well made brand name machine. Macs are insanely reliable, and are all about function. Everything fits together seamlessly, and you have almost no bloatware. All the components are high quality, the customer support is worth it's weight in gold, and nowadays you even have the option of having both OSX and Windows on the mac, which makes it possible to get the best of both worlds. The downside is they cost a few hundred quid extra. With the customer support package they usually run $1200 - $1500 for the 13". Also, something else to keep in mind. The new macbook pros come with a new type of battery. Basically, it allows it to survive 3x the number of charge cycles as the previous battery. My iBook lasted about 3 years before it's battery was toast with daily use, so the new laptops are almost guaranteed to keep a charge well after they're antiquated. Keep this in mind when shopping, and if you buy a PC ask about this type of technology. Edit: Keep an eye on places like Newegg.com, Tigerdirect.com, and Buy.com, they always have great deals going on.
I don't know about Mac lap tops, but we love our iMac for our desk. I would never buy anything but a Mac anymore. good luck!
I don't own a Mac, But I live with one, and he is great with changing the lightbulbs, and fixing things on the grill. Mac is my husband.
I've herd good things about Mac's and I mean the computer. they don't crash, but ar more expensive. But personally I havn't used one since college.
I have heard that even though they are more expensive, they last way longer. I am getting tired of replacing computers so often and having all my software go out of date every few years. I have only been homeschooling 5 yrs and everything I bought the first couple years is completely out of date and cannot be used.
