The only thing that worried me after watching the show on TV was that Dr Phill said if anyone does not like the idea of how easy it is for these people to teach thier children thier own way that they needed to get busy and form some stronger laws because what we do to teach our kids is legal.
That part made me worry for some peoples here in California might make dumb laws to make it harder to school in the fashion we see fit.
I too am so grateful that we can teach our kids how ever we want to.
For the little I know of Un schooling, I am curious about it because what I thought it was more like learning by doing things, like shopping and feild trips for science, and math and reading a lot and writing your own stories and stuff like that.... more or less relaxed learning styles but still teaching. The way Dr Phils show made it sound its more telling the kids to go do whatever each day and if you learn something good going kid?
Someone tell me how it really is?

The "structured" school/job advantage is a joke to me. I have a friend that thinks this way. I tend to think more along the lines of who gets off work every summer? And long holidays, and in-service days, spring break, early dismissals...???

"privately direct the education of their children. << "

WOW Jen I think you summed up homeschooling in one sentence there very well!
That really is it! How cool!
I think you stated it in such an intellegent sounding statement that even Dr. Phil would have a hard time arguing it heheh!
    Good job!

Oh! Thank you! That is very nice of you to say.

This comment came about because I needed to find a way to succinctly explain why I homeschool, to those outside of the lifestyle, so to speak. Plus, I am the only homeschooler in both mine and my DH family, I have to explain things all the time....

Texas has the ultimate freedom, in regards to HSing. This is because we can homeschool traditional, we can hire tutors, and sign up for classes.. any combination thereof... And I am not always the "Teacher" and they are not always "At Home".... no limits and no requirements.... freedom!

So, I "Privately Direct the Education of My children."

    God bless Texas!

Anyway, so that is where it came from.
    Thanks for the compliment.
I think I will change my signature.....
