I read this and wondered if anyone had seen it air, yet?

This is an article where someone, who was invited to be on the Dr.Phil show, sat in the audience and told about how Dr.Phil potrayed homeschooling in bad lights.

Just another reason why my Oprah, Dr.Phil worshiping Sister-in-laws will be on my butt after this airs.. sigh.....

This is weird. I am reading that it ran yesterday, October 18th. however, I know that yesterday, they played the episode of mediling in-laws....

This link (From the HSLDA Article) shows "No room for Comprimise" - Which is the homeschool episode. http://www.drphil.com/shows/show/597

Then, when I click on "What does Dr Phl Think", regarding this episode, I am sent to another list of show air topics that shows what was actually aired, this week... http://www.drphil.com/shows/

    So was this last year?
What am I missing, because it did not air yesterday.
    help?

    I am a flipping idiot!

Check out the date on the HSLDA Article:
    October 18, 2005!

What's really weird is that Spunky Homeschool posted this to her blog for this month for THIS year, and the man who actually went to the show posted it as if it was THIS ctober... what gives?

I know last year or the year before he had a show on homeschoolers. He pretty much said the same things. I did not see the show so maybe it was a rerun.

It did not re-run yesterday, because yesterday it was about in-laws. I watched. Yesterday was the 18th.

What I can gather from all of these links is this:
#1. The Blog entries for Spunky Homeschool and consideringhomeschooling.com were either wrongly posted or confusing, because they seem to talk about a relatively current event. And that they may have done better to make the distinction of talking about a year old event, considering the dates of the event line up with the date of their current posting.

(See the attached photo / screenshot of what I saw and see if you would have thought the same thing that I did...)

    #2. HSLDA's article is ated October 18, 2005.
#3 Yesterday was October 18, 2006. The topic aired was "In-Law Threats", wuch mentioned nothing about homeschooling.
#4 The HSLDA's website suggests that people write to DrPhil about this issue.
#5. No where on the DR Phil web-site can I find anything regarding homeschooling that aired that day. (I think they received a ton of letters and dropped this hot potato!) (Don't correct my Potato spelling! :p )

So I think this is a year old event.
But I would have loved to have seen it, too!

THis will be unpopular, but I will agree with the opinion that Dr. Phil states and the related research. I intend to send my kids to a private HS. I think that this will be a good transition before leaving for college.

I could change, we have years to go, but this is the plan for now.

I am not saying that I feel that you cannot sucessfully Homeschool through high school.

Vantage, not tomatoes here. I am not sure where I stand with that. For our house we are taking it year by year. I am almost certain we will do it for all the elementary years. From there we may look into a private school or may not. Depends mostly on what is available and my childrens needs. I do feel confident to homeschool all the way through though.
It helps that I know some successfully kids that were only homeschooled and they are very well adjusted adults.

    WELL, I'M SENDING TOMATOES!!!!

(Just kidding! We're all entitled to our opinion!)

Seriously, we all do what we think is best for our kids. If you feel that it would be best for you to send them to PS in High School, that's fine! But I know too many homeschooled high school kids that are very well adjusted, social, very bright, etc. I also see how screwed up our high schools are as far as attitudes of the students go, since I hear about it every day when DH gets home. I'm set to go "the duration". But again, that's DH's and my decision for our family, and isn't for anyone else. What I don't like is Dr. Phil seeming to spout off all kinds of psycho-social mumble-jumble that sounds good but has no basis in reality other than his personal opinion.

I was just going to homeschool my oldest ds for one year....now it's 9 years later, he's a junior in highschool, and we're still happily homeschooling! Who would've thought?! Not only that, but now I'd like to homeschool my other two through highschool also!

Before his 10th grade year we researched private highschools, but what I saw at the schools, and what he saw helped us realize we were doing fine. He asked to keep homeschooling through the end of highschool! Once we get to that point, I'm not sure what we'll do, we are researching that now.

However, I did notice a difference in the private hs's. They had a calmer atmosphere and I liked that I heard kids singing Christian songs and being quiet in class, they seemed very polite and helpful, etc. However, the cost of $8,000 a year was prohibitive for us! Besides that, with our views on dating (or rather on NOT dating!), we were very fine with his decision to keep homeschooling! :)
