I think this will be the first year that our Easter Baskets are more traditional. They usually get a big gift each with their basket (bikes, DSi systems, Power Wheels etc), things we can't afford any time other than income tax time. This year we spent income tax on a big family gift (65" 3D TV, 3D BluRay player), so there is no money for $100+ gifts for each kid. They will probably get things like bubbles and wiffle ball sets and some candy. We may buy a few 3D movies as a family gift (they want The Legend of the Gaurdians).

I also do things like make bunny cakes in the middle of the night... the bunny leaves them on the table ;) and of course we hide eggs filled with goodies (money, snacks, small toys).

I miss how simple it USED to be to get bubbles, jump ropes, hot wheels:(

I've never made an Easter basket, but if I did, it would have those Lego minifigure packs in them. lol We usually do a combined Easter egg hunt with family, plus they usually do one at church, plus the regular town egg hunt. They get enough candy, change, and small toys to make baskets redundant.

This year we don't have extra money for our normal baskets so we are planning on creating "date night" cards that they have to find by following an Easter themed scavenger hunt. There will be a small amount of money with each card a well.

I've never heard of Easter being a gift-giving holiday! Is it a regional thing? I better hope my kids don't hear about this. We just hunt eggs and have lunch at my parent's house. LOL

When I was growing up, it was just candy in the baskets. And that's pretty mcuh all my kids will be getting, and not gigantic ones at that. My little grandbaby, who will be two next month, will be getting a basket from Grandma. I'm putting sidewalk chalk and probably bubbles in it, and possibly either a book or a kids' CD. Oh, and a little bit of candy, which I did clear with her mom! She says a few chocolate eggs and plain jelly beans would be fine.

Since they live out of town and the new baby is due within a week of Miss K's b-day, I will also give her parents a wrapped birthday present. She has NO IDEA what is going on as far as a "birthday party" goes, with the baby coming. So if she has a party, the present will already be there when we show up, ready to open. If she doesn't have a party, Miss K can open our present when her parents feel is most appropriate. That way, the parents will have the freedom to skip a party this year if that is going to be easier on them.

I am making some homemade koolaid taffy, a card for each boy telling them how happy I am that God gave them to me, and maybe some other homemade treat like homemad marshmallows or something. We have zero money for candy or any other kind of gift. My MIL will go all out and buy a crap-ton of books, candy, bubbles, and trinkets and so on.

I don't know if it is regional thing or not, but I always got an Easter basket with candy and toys growing up. There are some people we know that give big items like bikes and such for Easter.

I always USED to put coloring books, bubbles, and side walk chalk......... aw I miss that stuff.
The kids like hollow chocolate bunnies but this year DH got the kids small solid bunnies and the chocolate crosses. ....... with a bunch of other little candies--- but when you start putting those little candies in all the baskets we do it doesn't seam like much in the end.... I do miss doing the big Egg hunts.... little bouncie balls, stampers and stickers and candy that wouldn't melt!

We've always done candy and small toys/trinkets. I still have one that is great with bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and such. My older ones are getting more difficult!! I think everyone is getting a new beach towel and flip flops (get those every year), but I'm not sure of anything else.

How about Silly String? You might be able to get it from the Dollar Store. I know my kids get a kick out of it! Also, what about hair scrungies for your girls?

Well, it's not really standard to give big gifts for Easter here, but we often don't have a ton of money to spend at Christmas especially since 3 of my kids have Christmas birthdays.

Here the bunny brings things like baskets of candy, a crap load of eggs hidden around the house, and any gift that shows up.

We do chocolate crosses, maybe a $1 toy or two, and maybe a book. Nothing fancy or expensive. The past couple of years we've even just did one basket for the boys to share... and we always hunt eggs in our yard or my mom's yard...

I'm thinking this year of inviting our new(ish) neighbors over to let their kids hunt with us so it's more fun :) My kids LOVE Easter Egg hunts, we have them all year long in the house! LOL

NO, not the crazy ones :) They moved.

We have some really nice neighbors behind us now. They have 2 little girls.

I do not know the neighbors in front of us though...but there are several kids in the house...might invite them too, I don't know...It's a scary thought after the last neighbors....

Whew... last I knew some of them were back and it was all crazy again, gosh I must have missed that they were gone for good now! I'm so happy for you. I would invite the new ones... and hope for the best :)

We've always only ever done candy in baskets. But with the kids getting older, we're trying to think of something different this year. They really don't need all that candy. And they don't need anything, really. So, I don't know what we'll do this year. Probably just less candy. My youngest is almost 13 so I feel like I'll be ripping her off if I stop Easter baskets altogether.

I don't know about regional. If your kids do hear about it you can tell them about my kids. We don't do Easter baskets or hunt eggs for the holiday:wink: We will have a nice lunch and family over. In the next week or so we are making Resurrection buns and my daughter will make a crown of thorns out of pretzels and melted chocolate. That is pretty much it.
