I haven't been on here in awhile but I always know I can come on her for good info! I'm hoping that someday my rowboat will come in lol, and maybe I can afford an electronic device. I'm wondering what people prefer - ipad, kindle, laptop or just a regular desktop? Any help would be welcome!

I prefer each for different situations. An iPad won't replace an actual computer (since word processing/printing/software is tricky at best and sometimes non-existent), but it will replace a Kindle. I have the Kindle app on my iPad, so I don't need a Kindle. Kindle is lighter and more portable, though, with MUCH better battery life. So if I was going to the beach or any place where I'd have to actually hold the iPad, I'd prefer a Kindle.

I like my desktop over my laptop or iPad for normal computer stuff: web browsing, word processing, watching videos, etc. If I need to do homework elsewhere, or if we are traveling, I appreciate the portability of the laptop. When we need to entertain a child, though, the iPad is king. I'd never drag my laptop to the doctor's office, but the iPad goes with us every time.

If I had to buy just one single item, I'd choose a laptop. It can do everything the desktop can. It can do everything the iPad and Kindle can (Kindle for computer is a free app), and is portable, it's just more cumbersome. You an set it on a desk for normal stuff, and take it to bed for late-night reading/movie watching; or just for surfing the web when you're sick.
