The plant kind......I'd like to replant the bulbs next spring, do those of you who live "down South" just mulch and leave???? I would assume digging is the best but, I just broke the lovely shovel handle!!

I never dig mine up, They have been coming up for about 8 years I think. I don't mulch them or anything either. Beth

I just leave mine covered with the leaves and they come back every year too. Don't cover them with anything like a pot though, they need the winter water too.

I think it will depend on your zoning as well as what type of Elephant Ear you have. Do you still have the package the bulb came in? The main types are Alocasia araceae and Colocasia esculenta araceae and each one has numerous types that all grow in different climates.

    I just had an idea.
Where did you buy them from? You can go back and ask what type it was. Most of the plants in stores or nurseries are zone friendly, with the exeption of some plants.
    It is worth a try.

I would love to plant Black Magic Elephant Ears, but here you must dig them up. I know I'd forget.

As a lesson with bulbs - put a pot over one before it comes up(probably something besides elephant ears)and leave some uncovered. When it comes up it will be white, not green because of lack of sunlight. No sunlight to manufacture the clorophyll.

I think those are the most beautiful of the Elephant ears I have seen. Depending on the way you look at them, they appear to have a blackish, greenish, grayish, velvety appearance. I think they are elegant.
