    A few highlights:

So about 1/3rd of kids are stealing and 2/3rds cheating, but at least most folks are happy with themselves about it.

Couple other things that caught my eye:

I agree we need more classrooms where learning takes on more importance than scoring, but I don't agree that we should make it 'easier to do the right thing'. Then we'll have a group of kids only doing the right thing when it is easier. I wonder what the school system would do if I told them the easiest way to make sure kids aren't cheating is to just homeschool them all.

Okay, I'll go with you there. :D

Interesting article. I agree with you, we don't need to make it "easier" to do the right thing. Doing the right thing is often hard, might as well get some practice in the classroom!

Granted, it was 20 years ago, but when I was in high school, we were definitely not overloaded or pressured. Still, cheating was rampant. Kids were just lazy, and to be honest the teachers were mostly too lazy to do anything about it. An example of this was that one teacher would leave the classroom almost every day to go to the office and turn in attendance. He left his notebook unattended which included the answer key for the next test. I didn't say the students were stupid, just lazy. It took about two days for them to realize what was going on and to copy the answers down to be handy on test day!

I didn't cheat, but I also didn't turn them in. Looking back, I wonder if the staff would have taken it seriously anyway...

I don't think we should make things easier for kids in the classroom; I believe these things are learned in the home. We should be teaching our children morals and ethics very early. This is disturbing.

I work at a retail store, a lot of kids steal. So do a lot of adults. And a lot of them in our area are spoiled little brats.
