I've finally decided on next year and have my curriculum. Next step is to download, set-up and schedule. We used SOS last year for everything. It was so convenient, but I realized that the kids need some specialized studies this year. I'm concerned that I'll have a hard time staying on task with English and history. Here's our plan. English: Grammarlogues, The Call of the Wild study, Jump In writing, and Vocabulary Vine. History: MOH (Mystery of History) Science: PLATO Physical Science Spanish, Bible and Home Economicmics: SOS Math: Thinkwell Pre-algebra
It is kind of hard to go from a boxed set to one that you have to schedule and make sure they follow. I find that I will get behind in some and ahead in others, so we have to have like a week of grammar twice a day and no math to get back on track. But in the end it works out fine. Good luck!!
How exciting!!! It looks like you really thought it out and made great choices. Keep us posted on how things work!
I think it is good to venture out of the box. I used to want to find the right box for my son to fit into. It didn't work. I even purchased and then changed my mind (lifepacs). Now, there have been times when we have used several different books throughout one year (or semester). Sometimes it has been messy and crazy, but it will work out. I think I am finally able to break out of the thinking that history needs to be learned from a textbook. We are going to use the library and netflix and buy some books that delve deeper into some certain eras/events.
That is my plan, too. I plan on using MOH as a guide, but plan to do lots of videos. Last year was the first time I tried a "boxed set". My dd basically liked it, but I'm concerned that she needs more review of the basics. We may go back to SOS for English II in 10th grade. My ds got frustrated with the science and language arts. It just didn't explain things well enough.
I haven't loaded it yet. The AOP brochure list the units. They seem to cover the same topics as CLE's course. I got it because I wanted to be sure to touch on all the major points, but hands on projects will be the bulk of the course.
