Have you noticed the lack of fiction books with homeschoolers as the main characters? I know there are a few fiction books that feature homeschoolers and there deserves to be many more. I am curious to know what your favorite homeschooling fiction books are. Please share . . .
I just remembered there is a site called homeschooliterature.com I think they are supposed to be all about homeschoolers in books.
Rick Riordan's Kane Chronicles series [beginning with The Red Pyramid] has as its heroes a brother/sister duo. The sister was raised by the grandparents and went to school; the brother was homeschooled and followed his father on his archaeological digs.
I got fed up with books that take place in schools, so I've been on a search for years for books with homeschoolers as the main characters. Finally, just recently, I put my list into a Squidoo list, here http://www.squidoo.com/homeschool-fiction-books
I just found a series _______ with the Moodys (Summer, Autumn, Fall, Winter) by Sarah Maxwell. I haven't read them yet but plan too order them for read aloud time. I'm excited to see so many others. Great thread idea.
I think there's a series called the Homeschool Detectives...? Also, I was reading in an adult mystery series once, where the main character was a military wife and mom. She needed a babysitter during a school day once, and called the local hs'ed teen to see if she was free. I really got a kick out of the way it was presented, with an understanding that she needed to complete her schoolwork, but also with an understanding of the flexibility and responsibility of hs'ed teens.
