I love teaching Math. I enjoy the look on my kids' faces when they 'get it' - when they finally make a break through. That's a thrill factor for me. So... do you or don't you ... have a favorite subject you enjoy teaching?
So far, I have loved math as well with my boys. They get it so quick and easy, it makes me feel super that I am such a great teacher. Hmm.. More then likely, they just get it, but I am living in the moment, gosh dang it
My favorite subject to teach in Science. Pretty much for the same reasons, I love when they get something. My dh and I are really huge science fans (science channel documentaries are frequently on our t.v.) so it's nice to see the kids grasp something that makes our world work! Also, I love it because you can teach science at any time and without extra supplies. All you need is the world around you.
I definitly like teaching Math...but because ds is good at it, not me. (He likes 'catching me out') I enjoy the history...because I like history. But teaching it is agony because ds doesn't like it at all. I like Bible, we are both learning this together...I did not have a strong bible background. ds is very philosophical and we get into the best discussions. Grammar...ugh. I love writing, but again ds struggles. I know he has good ideas in his head, but we can't seem to get them out. Reading. Definitly my FAVORITE!!! I am also pleased that in choosing great books, ds has really been liking this subject also. We do most of our reports orally. I know he will need to do the writing, but I want to have him get a handle on the organization of ideas...before we slog into getting it on paper.
I enjoy teaching writing, grammar, and all that is involved with Language Arts best. It was neat to read other replies...
Yeah, really neat. Let's see we have Historians, Mathematicians, Scientists, English Professors, here ...
I loved teaching my Ditz to read but now I love teaching history. It is just sooo cool when she makes connections between cultures or draws conclusions based on what she already knows. That gives me such a kick.
I love History, and some maths, mostly history , also creative writting of course but I am not good at teaching it as much as history! ( nice run on sentence don't ya think?)
I like teaching Math. I also, believe it or not, enjoy phonics. I think it's so cool how phonics rules apply and the world of words begins to make some kind of sense. I like doing science and I enjoy reading to the kids. But I have to say....I am learning more in every subject homeschooling than I ever did in my many years of Catholic school, public school, and college. I can't believe all the things that there are to learn and know and all the great books I never read as a kid. Now, through the beauty of homeschooling, I can get back what I lost then. I am really enjoying homeschooling. The more I get comfortable in what we are doing, the more that I am really getting into it.
Hey for all you Science teachers out there - this week ins earth science week in Australia. The theme is (Are you ready??) "No child left inside":lol:
Rofl...no child left inside! Love it! We're watching a Planet Earth dvd series right now, but we might need to get into something else as well.
istn it though? the ACSI math we had been given as a sample for a school and passed to us for free. I had a few grades and ended up using some of it with dd, and some with ds and then passing some on to other people in Public School who's kids were not getting it! It helped the kid pass Math that year and she asked me for more, which unfortunately I didnt have! Lol I like math up to Algebra, I realy dont like to teach it, pre alg, thats fun, but at the higher levels I can 'get it" but loose something in the translation kwim? :?:
You're definitely right, those higher levels can be a pickle. I use Teaching textbooks, Southwestern - Learning Company, Studio4learning, for Math; and this trio combination seems to balance the other out for me. God bless 'em.
Ooo..I like geography too. I was never good at geography, so now it's great to really learn where places are.
