    Hi Ladies,

I was wondering if any of you have used Teaching Textbooks. I'm especially wondering how the curriculum compares to Saxon - more review or less, spiral approach or do they stick to topic at hand, etc. I was also hoping you could give me any tips that would be helpful for someone just starting a Teaching Textbook.

By the way, if you haven't heard of them you might want to check them out. Really very cool  I think but only for upper grades.

    Thank you for your input!

I hadn't heard of Teaching Textbooks but, I went to the site and looked at a lesson from pre-algebra. It looked really good to me. I use Math U See for my 11 yo daughter and I love it. I will be using Saxon for my 9 yo daughter so I have looked at it but haven't used it yet. I hate to change math curriculum since it's so cummulative so I just made the choice based on how each of my daughters learn. Sorry I cna't be more of a help.

I'd be interested, too. Rachael will be in Algebra, and we have that free book that the school district replaced. You have to have a PhD to understand it! Yes, I appreciate the word FREE, but not if it's not working for us. DH promised me that if I give it an honest effort and still can't get it to "work", he would let me get whatever I want for her. I'll try this book, but I do want to have a back-up plan ready!

Gosh, I found the web site. $185!!! I don't see us getting THAT!!! I can buy Saxon for about $25, and probably about $75 if they have the DIVE CD's. (But I DID like what I saw!)

I just checked it out. I was searching for Teaching Text before which is why I couldn't find it. That is what I was told it was called which is why I was searching that. I checked out the website. This curriculum is awesome! It is addicting too! I sat there with the sample lessons and was working out the problems for myself. Its great for getting the brain to work after spending your time with little ones all day long! LOL I want the Algebra I for myself! LOL

I can't wait for the Math 7 to come out.

Where can you get Saxon for $75 with DIVE??? The cheapest I have found is RR and it is about $94. I am looking at Saxon 8/7.

    Try here: http://www.homeschoolclassifieds.com/show_sale_range.asp?st=Saxon&enNom=Sc&en=Sd

That's Homeschool Classifieds. They have Saxon 76 for $75. They also have Saxon 87 DIVE for $35, but I'm wondering if that's only the CD without the book....? Of course, they're used, but I've had wonderful luck finding what I want. If not, you can always post what you're looking for. I did that once, and got several responses.

I haven't used them, but have heard them discussed on another list. They are considered a bit light on content, but quite useable for a student who is having difficulty in math. If you have a student who loves math and does well it probably would not be suitable. For them I would probably look at textbooks by Lial or perhaps Elementary Algebra by Harold Jacobs.
