I just stumbled across this forum and I've been looking through the posts -- they make me feel kind of old We're new to the forum, but not homeschooling. We have six boys and two girls whom we've homeschooled from the beginning. Our oldest son is in college and our youngest - a little girl - is only seven months old. We first heard about homeschooling about 25 years ago and it interested both of us tremendously. Those were the bad old days when people were going to jail for daring to homeschool their children, so we decided that I would go to graduate school in education so I could homeschool wherever my military officer husband was stationed. One of my major projects involved homeschool research and it convinced both of us that's what we wanted for our family -- to give them the best education and to truly disciple them. Only one problem - we didn't have children yet! That was soon remedied and I went to my first homeschool conference with our son in a baby sling. We haven't looked back, either! Homeschooling has been a tremendous experience for us and we've had slews of adventures and blessings - from making it through multiple bedrest pregnancies with our sanity and education intact to spending a month traveling through China with all of the children. We are tremendously thankful for Hal to be working from home now - we are entrepreneurs and writers, so we can do that surrounded by our blessings. I'm so glad to find this forum. I really enjoyed a pregnancy forum this winter while I was expecting Katie and I'm looking forward to getting to know you guys, even if I am the most ancient one around! Melanie Young
Welcome, Melanie! I'm betting several of us here, myself included, are fairly close to your age! We have several who have graduated their children already, and some who are g'parents. Plus all the young ones starting out. A real wide range! Am looking forward to the wisdom you have from experience! (Oh, I'm Jackie, btw! My children are Rachael 15, Faythe 13, and Phillip 9.)
I think I'm only 9 years younger than Jackie, so does that make me middle-aged? LOL Welcome, Melanie!!
You're like me, Marylyn! You're MATURE, but not OLD! (Gosh, I don't believe I just called you "mature"...I'm sure your sister would have something to say about THAT!)
