Mattsmama remember that the feild trips can be simple or extreeme at your boys ages it can be a lot of fun!
Science centers are great and so are the othe rtypical field trips at these ages! Have fun with it!
I am looking at things myself today to gear in with what we are learning about both in history ( Art Museum in the future after the storms let up) and Science (Nasa near us center)

Oh yes I understand that completely TeacherMom! I am not going to be planning MAJOR field trips every other week but since there is so much to do around here that is fairly new to us, I think other than a trip to the grocery store ds would be excited about them.

There are soooo many field trips you can do for free!

Contact your state tourism office. Request their books and brochures!
If you live near a big city, check out their "Travel and Tourism" website. Even if you think you know all their is, you'll be surprised at the things you can find. And free festivals and events are usually listed.

Dont forget state parks! They can be the best! Their nature programs are great!

I think small towns are easier for field trips. You get to know people in your town. You can talk with the managers at the local grocery store and they LOVE to give a quick tour. As your out and about, the opportunities to talk and ask questions so present themselves....and you'll be surprised where it can lead. When one of my kids would say "Mom, how does that guy do that?" (or some such) I could answer "I dont know, why dont we ask him?"

Also, places that charge admission, sometimes have free offers. I have even found that there are places willing to offer a discount or free admission when I call and ask. And the smaller places seem to be the more outgoing and friendly with the kids!

And, dont discount when you are going on a trip or vacation. You can even continue the fun after.....Kid's favorite are the worksheets we got on different amusement parks after visiting. Reminded them of the fun with their schoolwork.

If you spend a little time, you'd be amazed at what you can find!
