We started school today. It was totally spur of the moment. DS was bored and decided he was ready. NICE! So, we went to bigmathtime.com and I fell in love with it. I like spellingtime and curiosity got the best of me. I really thought that it was right on target with what he had been doing in Saxon. I bought a month subscription so hopefully, I'll still like it in August and can just buy the year. Of course, I'll incorporate other things but I think this may work for us. We also did a little science (if making ice cream in ziploc bags counts) and Spanish. That's a wrap for day 1. 179 to go.
We won't start History or Spelling for a few more weeks.

That's great RBH! Glad it went well!

Certainly making icecream in a ziplock bag counts as science! It was in my dd's Apologia science book, so it MUST count! :D

    Oh My!

We started up today as well!
    How cool is that?

We did spelling, reading (For comprehension), math and the begining of our creation lapbooks. YEA!

    We homeschool year round.
We had decided to take the first two weeks of May off, for social reasons. (Lots of parties and events, for us at that time) The Daddy had the accident, and we had to move and well you know....

So, today was mostly about remembering things. But it was fun!

And thanks for reminding us about bigmathtime.com!! I am SOOO happy to see it open!

Jennifer - are you using something for creation lapbooks? Just wondering. We're starting with creation next week. ;)

    Oh!
It took me FOR-E-VER to find something on creation, even at hands of a child and at homeschoolestore! I was about to pull my hair out, then I stumbled upon one at hoemschoolestore. It wasn't labeled as a lapbook, but it "IS" a lapbook! ARRGH!!

    It is called "Creation Games".

    Their definition......
"This lapbook is appropriate for K-6th Grades, and it comes with all of the templates, instructions, and information needed! All you need is colored file folders, glue, and scissors! Join in on the adventure of Lapbooking!"

It is 39 pages long and even has a diagram of how it all fits into THREE folders (Lapbooks!) We will not use everything as my kids are 4 and 6 years old. But it is cool because we can use it again next year and build on that.

I also grabbed a few free things from here....
    Coloring pages of creation.

Today, they simply sat while I read about ten books on the subject, from the library. We talked about it and tried to remember the 7 days. Tomorrow we will work on day 1.

I pointed out that there are 7 days in a week and asked what day of the week do you think that day one fell on? (In the words of my 6 year old twins, "God probably rested on Sunday because everything is closed then anyway, and it is HIS day. So Monday was definately the first day!"

    Hahahaha!

    Thanks Jennifer! Those are great!

Here is a creation unit study that is awesome! On this site you can view a sample; it's in PDF format and you can save it to your computer. It's quite a full sample, giving an outline of the lessons and several pages of each... I'm going to get it! (Nellie showed me this but didn't realize that what she had wasn't complete. I found the store.... The book sells for $19.99) Just in case anyone can use it. ;)

This is an early elementary edition of "What do they DO all day???".........

Stand in line to enter the school.
Stand (Or sit) in line before class.
Find your hook and shelf to put all of your stuff and in the chaos listen to Cindy tell Janet that Joe eats his buggies. (Joe runs around the classroom with a boogie on his hand, trying to get it on the girls as they scream away.)
Wait for the teacher to gain control of the classroom.
Wait for the teacher to once again, get Bobby off the bookshelf, while simeltaneously convincing him that we do not hate him.
Color a page related to today's read-to story about "Stranger-Danger".
Wait for the teacher to re-teach the concept to Frank.

Put all of our stuff away fo lunch.
Argue with Patty over whose crayon box it REALLY is.
Stand in line to walk in a line to the lunchroom on "Our" turn.
    Stand in line for food.
Wait for everyone else to finish their food.
Stand in line for the bathroom.
Wait for everyone to return to their desks from the restroom.
Wait for everyone to settle down after returning from the restroom.
Wait for the teacher to bring everyone back up to speed after their SUGAR BOMB lunch.
Stand in line for the pencil sharpener.
Wait for everyone to calm down after returning from the perncil sharpener.
    Do a page of addition.

Wait for teacher to re-teach the concept to Andrea, who is from a different school, that although it is in the same district, did not have the same curriculum and they had not "Got to that part, yet".

Wait for teacher to regain control of classroom after spending so much time with Andrea.

Put things away for . . . Wait... it is Wednesday. That means that for today we "Get" to go to the gym. (We only go once a week).
Line up to go to the gym.
    Get into the gym.
    Line up for attendance.
Sit down to listen to the rules of today's game.
Stand up to start game, where most of the kids didn't get it so they are not sure what to do.
Just as everyone "gets" it and the game begins to get good, coach blows the whistle. Your 45 minutes are up!
Line up to go back to class.
Stop by bathroom to get drinks and a bathroom break.

Wait for teacher to regain control of the room as everyone returns to their desks.
Do writing assignment, never finish and take home to return tomorrow to show what you did.
Grab your stuff for going home.
Line up for the bus, the car line, or the walk home line.
    Listen to announcements.
Be reminded by the teacher that tomorrow is special because it is our ONCE A WEEK day to go to the library, so try to keep in mind what you might want to get because we will only have 20 minutes to pick out a book or two and don't forget your library card, or you will not be allowed to pick out a book.

    Leave.
Go home and forget to put library card in backpack.
    Forget to finish writing asignment.
Forget to tell mom that you raised your hand to voleneer to bring 50 cupcakes for tomorrows St Patricks Day party.
Get to level 47 on Grand Theft Auto.
Kick your younger brother in the head for reading a book, because he makes you feel dumb.

Refuse to eat anything that is NOT over-processed, because it is the same crap you eat at school.

Stay up late watching spangebob (I looove spongebob! haha)

Wake up after your mom flips your mattress.

    Barely make the bus.

Stand in line to enter the school.
On a rainy day, Rinse and repeat.

This is the life of my nephew...
Mixed with a bit of what my twins did all day in their half a year in PS, where I volunteered a lot, so I saw a lot)
    Pray for my nephew!.

Ha! There are days it is about that exciting to be the teacher, too. It is terrible. I loved teaching, but I got to spend such a small part of my day doing it. I was shocked when I was looking back through my old plan books (I save EVERYTHING!!) to see how many assemblies, etc. we had to go to.

Yep, sounds familiar from when I taught too! And they think homeschooled children aren't learning anything???
