I almost never get a flu shot and I almost never get the flu. I usually make sure my dd8 gets her's though, due to her asthma and allergies, I will not take any risks when it comes to her ability to breathe. And in past years w/ the shortage of flu shots where they were only available for children & the elderly, I grew accustomed to not getting one for me.

This year the flu seems particularly nasty. A school district an hour or so away from here completely shut down (according to my dh) for a few days due to the flu. I've almost convinced myself to get my flu shot, before it's too late. I was curious to see what you all have done.

Voting in the poll is optional and results will be anonymous, but I thought it would be neat to see what everyone did.

My family got one last year or maybe the year before. That was the first and last time. I just never think about it. I don't have anything against it.

There is a woman at church that says that if terriorists wanted to kill us off they would contaminate the flu shot. Ten points for the conspiracy theorists! LOL.

We don't get them because we are not in the high risk categories. However after seeing the hard time my 7 yr old dd had with a non flu virus this year, I might elect to have then get flu shots.

With the super strains, that seem to be going around in recent years, and the fact that bird flu still lingers on the horizon, I am reconsidering our total lack of flu shots.

My Tin Foil Hat has an elastic band and it not toooo tight, but If they attack biologically it will be McDonalds fries, and Starbucks coffee not the flu shots.

*Whew* What a relief! I'm safe for sure then because I can't afford Starbucks and I much prefer Wendy's french fries to Mickey D's!! LOL!!!

LOL, hope you don't mind me using that the next time this lady corners me with her strange theories. However, she might actually think I have something! LOL!

I think the protocol for shots is high risk first when there is a shortage, this year there was no shortage, in our town there was a surplus so they had a day to give them away free one day

Only our type 1 diabetic son gets a flu shot. We have not had the flu in years. Im not sure my children have ever had the flu. I remember as a kid getting the flu frequently, but memory is a weird thing lol.

We're around enough people that DO get it, I guess, and we were getting it every year! Sometimes more than once! And my poor little dd gets everything so badly, that I couldn't stand not to TRY the flu shots. We get them free through our HMO, so we get them every year there is not a strict shortage. We have not had the flu once since we started getting the flu shots! When some of ya'll and some of our neighbors, were having it run through your families awhile back, I was worried that we could get it too, but we didn't, and that makes it SOOOOO worth it for me!

We actually have a woman in our area who wears a knit cap with a metal bowl under it to protect her brain from alien brain waves coming down. She wears a top with can lids sewn into it to protect her chest and sometimes wears a frying pan on a string around her neck too. She only drinks bottled water from one certain store and she is convinced everyone is out to get her. She has a college degree but lives out of her car with a huge dog because she is so afraid of everything. It is so sad.

    No Flu Shots here...

The only year I ever got a flu shot, I got the flu so bad I was down for 3 weeks straight. Was almost hospitalized and almost lost my job (was single at the time).

That experience left a sour taste in my mouth..so to speak.

Nope. Never will again. haven't had one in 15 years, haven't had the flu either.

    :)

I had a similar situation. My one and only flu shot was in 1994.

Yes, I have been sick since, but no where near as sick as I was that particular year.

OH my goodness....does she have family that can help her? Sounds like she needs to be admitted somewhere for some psychiatric help. How strange!

We don't do flu shots either. Personal reasons mainly. Tanner and I both get extreme reactions to them and they make us very sick. The hospital where my hubby works also does not recommend them for pregnant women because of the risks. I don't do the "unnecessary" shots. Not saying they are unnecessary for everyone, they just aren't needed for our family. :)

Emma had her flu shot a few weeks ago and has not had any problems. I am glad I got it for her and I still need to get mine. I've just been to lazy to get to the doctors.

This is me exactly....my dh had one too, and felt draggy for a day or two, but it never even made my dd8 blink an eye!

I still hesitate because of experiences like jenpooh, jenlynn, and kbabe.

Leslie, She has family but won't have anything to do with part of them and part of them are afraid of her. They think she killed her mother years ago. My friend was a cousin of hers and she was terrified of the lady. She has a case manager with mental health but functions high enough that they can't make her get help. All the local law people know who she is so they try to keep an eye on her so she doesn't hurt herself. She drives around and just parks and stays places for a while. She stayed in the Food Lion parking lot for a while. I have never known what caused her to start acting this way. She must be at least 45 or 50 by now.
