Ok, so my dd 6th bday is coming up...I always make the cakes because, well, cakes are expensive. I decorate them and all, and I truly hate it...just between us. Anyway, she has decided she wants to have a tea party. And her dad was nice enough ;)(sarcasm intended) to show her wedding cakes...which is what sh now wants. So, I need a fondant recipie because I have NO clue how to work with the stuff. Also, any tips on how to do it would be awesome!

    Thanks

    Try this place: http://candy.about.com/od/fondantcandyrecipes/r/mm_fondant.htm

I made some fondant yesterday :) I much prefer mixing the colors into the heated marshmallow rather than at the end. It is so much easier to get the right color when you mix it in the marshmallow and it is easier to combine. Also when you roll out the fondant grease the board with butter rather than dust it with powdered sugar. Make sure you grease your rolling pin too - and your hands.

Awesome! I have a question though...do you think a stand mixer could kneed it most of the way? I have bad wrists, so I am hoping to use it, but we shall see.
    Thanks so much!

I'm not sure about a stand mixer, but I burned out a hand mixer trying to mix fondant. It isn't too difficult to do by hand if you follow the recipe exactly.

I did a marshmallow fondant for my dd's birthday. It's sweeter, so the little one's like it better, and it doesn't react to humidity like regular fondant. I just googled a recipe.

The marshmallow kind wasn't hard, but I did keep my design simple.

I talked to her today and explained that, while she can have a tierd cake, she is NOT getting a wedding cake. She was a bit upset, but I just can't do that elaborate of a design. I get mad enough at the dumb frosting on a regular cake, I can't imagine what would happen if I actually attempted a wedding cake.

For what it's worth, with all my cakes, I have broke two stand mixers, had frosting melt off the cake, and cried...I really really hate doing cakes. Dave Ramsey asks couples who call in to say their debt free what they will NEVER do again. If he asks me that when I'm debt free I am going to say CAKES!
