I loved Anthem and with the new Atlas Shrugged movie coming out recently purchased that book and have begun reading that as well. Today, I found out that you can get Ayn Rand novels free along with study guides and lesson plans here: http://aynrandeducation.com/teacher-resources/homeschooling.html ... Yay! Is anyone else here an Ayn Rand fan?
I find him interesting, but I can't say I'm exactly a fan. His ideas are a little too... self-centered for me. It's always good to expand our minds with additional information, though, and I love the link!
You may be thinking of someone else. She's a woman who grew up in communist Russia before coming to America in the late 20's. She was a proponent of capitalism who rejected communism after living in a communist country.
When my mum was in university, way back in the 60s, she had the good fortune to hear Ayn Rand lecture. My mother was a huge fan before she went, based on having read all her books. After listening to her speak, my mother went home and gave away all her books. Obviously my mother's not a fan anymore. I've asked her why, but all I get is some muttering about that "dumpy little woman" and "hypocrisy." I still think it's awesome there's homeschool curriculum written around her! Just be sure to emphasize to your child that atheism, destruction of property, and rape (Fountainhead) all have to be justified as individualism versus collectivism.
Thank you for sharing your story, Meg. I guess that's more proof that you should "never meet your heroes." LOL
