What books/curric. would you order for a first grader if you had very little cash?

I've hit a little bump and do not have the funds to order what I want for another month or so.

Or if anyone has links for free stuff to print for math, phonics, spelling, handwriting, whatever that would be nice :)

Thinking I can just print some stuff for her and buy a few workbooks until I can order what we need.

Problem is, there are so many websites out there I don't even know where to begin!

Not sure what math you were planning to use but if you were leaning towards Horizons (for example), you can order just the workbooks and one at a time. For me, I'd rather do that than buy a Wal-Mart workbook as an interim thing unless I'm planning to use it for the whole year anyway.

We just started the Spectrum LA 1 (Mercer Mayer edition) from Barnes & Noble. We're using it for the year in addition to Explode the Code. It's pretty inexpensive especially if you take proof of homeschooling (you can get a 20% educator discount at most big book stores).

There are LOTS of free online things. I don't have a specific recommendation. With 3 kiddos, I haven't found tons of time to go that route.

ok here are some threads that have lots of links:

http://www.homeschoolspot.com/showthread.php?t=13574&page=2 (page 2 has the links)

    http://www.homeschoolspot.com/showthread.php?t=13523 (I think page 2 here too)

Check out www.oldfashionededucation.com/fullcurriculum.htm you can litterally use this curriculum to homeschool for FREE!!! and it's good!!! Even has a math book that is all online.

I like the Spectrum books and the books from Walmart, Sams Culb and the dollar stores.

Money is always tight for us, I have to be creative in order to be able to stay at home with my kids.

I spend at most $100 bucks a year on educating my 3 kids (that does not include netflix and trips, but does include paper and ink and books).

Starfall - phonics and reading, excellent!!

Literactive - another learning to read website

Letter of the Week - phonics, reading, journaling, stories, countries, and so much more! Check out the whole site!

    Rainforest - math

Math Manipulatives - this page is grades 3-5, but there is a ton usable for 1st grade and probably are more pages as well. It's virtual manipulatives for a ton of different mathematical concepts.

Hubbard's Cupboard - Bible and/or Character studies. The 2-3 aged curriculum is excellent and could be tweaked to use at a first grade level.

Handwriting Wizard - make your own handwriting worksheets

A Kid's Heart - lots of good stuff

Homeschool Share - lots of great lapbooks and printables, especially literature or theme based

Homeschooler Network - tons of great lesson plans. I almost linked you to the science page directly, but this guide has all subjects listed by age. Fun!

Homeschool Helper - links at the bottom to free resources, by subject

CurrClick and SchoolExpress both have weekly freebies; for SchoolExpress you have to sign up for their newsletter to access the link. At CurrClick, just go to the website. They have regular freebies and then something that's featured each week, which may or may not be usable for your family. :)
