I am not trying to promote anything or sell anything. I was just curious on behalf of my cousin. How much would you pay (or have you paid) a private tutor (in person or online "web to web") for a french course? Probably high school level and from an accredited teacher? Thanks for your input???
I haven't paid anything. There are too many great, and FREE resources. Why should I pay some one to tutor me? There are sites like LiveMocha and ielangagues.com and FSI that have so many resources and then places like Youtube and the such. When I get to an advanced enough level, then I will find someone to converse with, and even that is free if you find a forum of your interests and just start talking and then PMing/emailing and then IMing and then Voice Chatting with people from that forum in your target language.
I would probably be willing $100 to $150 for my child to take a French class once a week, but IN PERSON, not on-line.
WOW, that is a good question! monthly sounds okay, I think lowest would be 50 a month as our band teacher charges ony 30 a month for four days a week then two when the child is proficient... so for a french teacher you would need to price it at least 50 a month, for a couple days a week for an hour a day... up to about 1-200 a month depending on more days a week.
That's how much I'd be willing to pay for the CLASS. I might go as high as $200, but that's it. Carl charges $125 per student for his computer class for the entire year. I will be paying I think $150 for Rachael's one-semester Research class this fall; Faythe's two-semester English class is I think $195.
My cousin is thinking about offering to teach the local hs'ers. He was thinking $300 but it's for a while year, like the equivalent of a french 1 in high school. But you think that face to face would work better than online using a program that does web to web which would still be 1 on 1?
I think $300 is reasonable for 1 on 1 for a whole year. Personally, I'd prefer face to face, rather than on-line. Also, I would prefer a class to 1 on 1. With languages, I think a group setting works better, but that's just me. Also, if he were to do it that way, I think he could charge less per person (but would make more per hour).
that is about what my band lessons cost us for my kids, 300 a year, we just pay in installments twice a year, per semester?
