And I don't know what to tell her! So I said I'd ask here because you guys always have the best advice! Basically, her DD's in PS and has to take a test in October and April. She asked if I'd be willing to help tutor her daughter on this because they butt heads too much. Since I need the money, I'm glad to give it a try. Anyway, if any of you have recommendations on test prep materials she can buy, especially online, I'd love to hear them. Thanks!
I don't have a specific recommendation on test prep materials, but I do have a suggestion. I've tutored high school kiddos for several years to prep for these tests and the best thing they can do is do as many practice tests as they can before the official test date. These can be found in just about all of the test prep books. Familiarity with the test and the forms of the questions is very important. Carol
Khan academy has free SAT prep stuff at http://www.khanacademy.org/sat.jsp. I also used to get the SAT Question of the Day by e-mail every day. I know they still have one every day (http://apps.collegeboard.com/qotd/question.do) but I'm not sure if they still e-mail them. My kids did the SAT rather than the ACT, so I don't know much about that.
My high schoolers have used Princeton Review for all test prep and they reckon it is excellent - and their scores have been great (My oldest was a National Merit finalist). The public library we belong to has quite a few and you can buy them used at Amazon. They explain exactly what each test is looking for, plus they give a review of the material with realistic practice tests. My kids found they have been far better prepared than school kids who have just been taught by their teachers. Often the school kids have no idea what the tests are looking for.
