A couple of years ago my DH was transferred and I spent many hours driving to and from the new place with three kids in the car. We derived a game similar to "I Spy" to help us pass the time. This game has evolved into something we play daily (DH included) and I thought I would share.

The idea came to me when I was driving around my boys and our daycare boys and one wanted to play "Slug Bug". I didn't want my boys forever hitting each other in the car (I remember my sibs and I!!)- so I assigned a point for each car. Points were later turned in for a special craft time or science time.

When we began driving so much, I picked out two cars that were fairly distinctive (VW Bugs and PT Cruisers). The boys could call out the car, but also had to say the color, and in the case of Bugs, whether they were "old" or "new". Surprisingly, our 3 yr old picked this up the fastest (perhaps because he was the one most likely to be looking out the window!) Soon we added Hummers, as they were distinctive, but once in awhile we would spot one. We are now up to several types of cars: limos are the most points, and with several classic car shows nearby in the summer, we are learning roadsters, etc. The boys will now call out "bug, new, lime green, with a sunroof and a bra." We have expanded colors to include cream, burgundy, metallic blue, etc.

The boys are getting so used to looking at cars, that we have begun calling license plates now. We have seen a Hawaii, and a Florida and a Maine in the last couple of weeks (we are in the Northwest), and that is fun in itself.

Sorry this post is so long, I just wanted to share. Thanks for reading! Have a great day.. momx3
