It's cold here, 2 degrees when I got up at 8:00. So when I saw this posted on Facebook we had to try it. It worked! Our bubbles froze very quickly, but they didn't get the cool ice crystal patterns you see in these pictures. Our bubbles froze completely clear. We think it may be because of very low humidity here. It was a fun science experiment as we try to get back into our routine today.

My kids are running right now to see if it works. (Including Rachael, who is 19!)

ETA: It worked (sort of!). Faythe had some bubbles she got just last week at a White Elephant Exchange. So Phillip, Rachael, and Rachael's sweetie sent HER out on the front porch, while they closed the door and huddled around the window, watching. NEVER MIND that Faythe is the one fighting a cold right now!!! But one of the bubbles did solidify, which was cool. Rachael's sweetie does great photography; he says he's going to do it when he gets home and take pictures.

Does it have to be really cold or just below freezing? Where we are it is only in the 20's, but that is cold for us!

It's -30C with a windchill of -46C, so a little too cold to go out. Maybe when it warms up a bit we will have to try it though!

Cool! I never would have thought to try this.

It's almost 1 pm and it's -16 F (yes, that is MINUS 16). We are going to try this right now...but I doubt we'll be out there very long. I'll report back in a bit to say if it worked or not.

Brrr...that was cold. I was shaking out there. But, it was worth it...it was pretty cool. Our bubbles didn't look like the ones at the link (they didn't look crystally). Our bubbles would form like a skin (not clear, but kind of white). When they popped the little pieces of skin would float down. Some of them kind of collapsed but didn't completely pop right away. The problem we had was it was so windy that it was hard to catch any. But, even just blowing them high in the air and watching them float, they would break and the little pieces would fall. We're going to try it again later this afternoon. Thanks for the fun idea Ange!
