My son, who is in the 6th grade, has been improving greatly with his typing skills (actually, thanks to an online video game called Minecraft! LOL!). Anyway, my college attending daughter texted me today to say "Happy Valentine's Day." My son grabs the cell phone and texts her several "silly" messages back trying to confuse her. When she finally realizes it is my son and not me texting her, she replies to him "How did you learn to spell so good and use proper punctuation?" His answer was, "I'm homeschooled!" LOL! Daughter was public schooled...son is homeschooled. BIG difference!

I'm impressed! Phillip doesn't worry about spelling, capitalization, or punctuation when he sends out an email. Drives me CRAZY!!!

Thank you! I'm glad my son isn't the only one. Now, my boy worries about posting to his blog when it comes to spelling, but it's like capital letters and other punctuation [besides a period] are non-existent. He knows all the rules up one side and down the other and knows how to use them, he just doesn't! Drives me nuts! :)

I wish I could take the credit for my son's "sudden" interest in proper grammar, but alas, I cannot. Actually, he has been researching how to create online servers, "mods," "skins," and other foreign sounding stuff for his fave online game "Minecraft." In order to do all that stuff, he has to PROPERLY type in codes and sequences for things to work right. It is all kind of over my head, but he seems to know what he's doing. Anyway, I think because he has to be so technically correct with all that computer stuff...it's rubbing off in his Language Arts. I DO focus on editing skills during our homeschooling, but all the research and detailed computer jargon that revolves around Minecraft has helped him to do things properly the first time.

My son plays Minecraft. He's always looking for new friends to play with. If your son would be interested in linking up with my son, Brad (age 13), please PM his username. Thanks!!

Minecraft is an "indie" game that allows the user to build his own world in 3D. The graphics are rough, but for kids who like Legos and building blocks...Minecraft can be addictive! In order to build stuff, you have to "mine" for the materials...or chop trees for wood. You need to grow veggies and raise animals for food. Exploring different land bioms and caves is part of the adventure...and who knows what you will find?! Users can play in "safe" mode (without the "monsters") or with them.

My son built an online server so he could play privately online with his best friend. That way I know that NO one else is playing with them.
