Geometry for 8th grade, or something else?

My 12-yr-old DD finished her Algebra 1 book this week, and will be doing logic and some living math from now through May.

Looking ahead to her 8th grade year, I am stuck on what to do for math. I read somewhere that geometry is best taught later (at least 9th grade) than earlier. If that's true, should I move DD into Alegbra 2 next? Or, is there something else she could do for 8th grade and then continue with geometry in 9th grade?

    Thanks,
    Michelle

I remember doing Alg 1 in 9th, Geometry in 10th, and Alg 2 in 11th when I was in school (that's the highest math offered, so there was no 12th grade math). I wish I'd been allowed to do Alg 1 & 2 in a row and then Geometry later. I honestly love math, and even considered it as a major for a while, but I had terrible teachers, and skipping that year between Alg 1 & 2 really threw me off. I didn't understand geometry, but that was the teacher's fault.

Anyway... we'll be using Life of Fred, and I really like his reasoning. He tells parents to do Alg 1 & 2 together and then do Geometry. If you're curious, you could go to his website and read about it.

Not sure how helpful that was... just my 2 cents. :)

I agree with doing the Algebra first, and then Geometry.

Thanks. I'll check out the Life of Fred website. I had forgotten about LOF. I have a few of the elementary books for my son. Hadn't thought about checking into it for higher levels.
