My oldest DD is 8 and right now we are doing stuff out of the American Girl Series books. After we read a series we see if they have the cookbook and craft book for that girl. We are doing Felicity now and I think Kirsten is next. Not sure what my DD has planned. This is her thing. :)
As for princesses, I found books on real princesses. I really got tired of reading EVERY book about the popular princesses. I think we read 4 different versions of the Little Mermaid and Cinderella. (I am glad to be with AG right now)
My dd really likes her barbies and I found some books in the adult section about the collection of Barbie. We found out that some of the clothes we have are old. (from thrift store)
I haven't done any of the science kits but want to. Will do them when we move home. (my poor son)

We did a unit study this spring on the American Revolution and loved reading all the Felicity books. They even had a large study guide. We got everything free at our library. We recently went to the used book store and bought Addy's Craft book and Samantha's cookbook for $2! For father's day we made the breakfast out of the cookbook and it was goooooood!

    I am excited now!

I was talking with my DH who wondered if the baby girl would miss out on information the boys learned...

Well, THEY got to learn what it was like being a MALE in that time period... Why can't she learn what it was like being a FEMALE in that time period.

He decided he heard too many periods and conceded that I was right!

    Bwaaaa haaaa haaaaa!
    Girls rule!

And As I look at what we have, BJU Press Heritage studies does a great job of doing things pretty evenly down the middle, gender-wise.
