I just "found" this site a little bit ago, and have tried to read back posts, etc. I was wondering if anyone has used the God's World News subscriptions for their kids? It sounds like what we had as Weekly Readers- the "magazine" comes weekly, but their is a biblical perspective to it. Any pros or cons please?

By the way, you all seem to be a great bunch of people and I can't wait to join in and meet you!

    Thanks, momx3

I have in the past. The first year I used it, I was frustrated because it was sent to someone at church who would then distribute them. It seemed to come sporadically. And I got the distinct impression it was the fault of the magazine, NOT the fault of the lady doing the distributing. You'd get it for two or three weeks, then not get any, then get three at once. It really frustrated me.

Later, I had it sent to the house. That was a little better (maybe they had just settled down by then!) But I didn't use it as much as I thought I would, so for me it wasn't worth the money. I would like to get World Magazine, though. We're not sure it's in our budget right now. Oh, HSLDA members I believe get a discount for God's World.

    We just subscribed....

We've just subscribed to it and the kids like it, but I made the mistake of getting a copy for each of them. We sit down and do the pages together and read the stories and discuss them, so next time I'll probably only order one for the two kids to share.

It's my understanding that during the summer, you only get them sporadically. They are set up on a "public school calendar year" so they are supposed to be more regular from September thru May.

    Hello and welcome!

I subscribe to God's World News for my ds, who is seven. We don't use it every week (I forget about it!), but I use it as a filler or grab one that goes with what we are covering. It arrives on a fairly regular basis during the school year (the second year's subscription arrived in a more timely manner than our first year's), but since we don't depend on it each week, just use it as an "extra", that doesn't bother me. Ds loves getting his own mail! :-D As he gets to be a stronger reader, I'll just let him read it on his own when it arrives... right now, we sit down with it together and read it, do the activities, etc.

    Blessings,

Thank you all. I have 3 children, all will receive a different age subscription so I thought I would ask! I have all boys, ages 10, 8 and 5. This is our 5th year homeschooling and we love it! I am a "curriculum-aholic"- which makes for full bookshelves and a wish-list a mile long. I am improving- I decided for my kindergartner this fall NOT to buy a whole kit- I have plenty of things to use, and I think kindergarten is a "hand-on" year anyway. Our library is pretty great- I just checked out Hooked on Phonics level 1 for 2 weeks!! I use Christian Liberty for the bulk of my curriculum. About me, I like to cross-stitch, read, cook, and have become quite the "sports Mom"- the kids have already done basketball, soccer, baseball, golf and are almost finished with swim lessons. Flag football starts in two weeks...

    More later, momx3

    Hi..and welcome here!

I too have 3 dc. The exact same ages  All boys. This is our 6th yr homeschooling and I think your a *curriculum junkie* you will fit in just fine around here

We are in South Texas, and the only sports we do at this time of the yr is swimming until about 8:30 at night then we come outside 8)

I too use a mish mesh of curriculum this yr. We have a lot of newbies here. Some following a boxed curriculum and some putting it 1/2 way together. A lot of us too are following Charlotte Mason and Classical approaches. Those two seem to be the most popular here.

    Anyway, glad your here!
