oh, completely true. Except that most average people are too um... dense to realize what has happened. They bought it hook line and sinker and think it is the best thing for their kids....and sadly, most of them don't care.

The problem is that the way it would actually happen is this:

One year, the gov't would give certain people access to free healthy foods (oh.. wait.. WIC).

Then, after a while, they'd decide everyone should have access to those healthy foods for free.

A few years later, they'd decide that grocery stores aren't monitoring those healthy foods closely enough, so people have to go to gov't run distribution centers to redeem their vouchers. Which means grocers will stop carrying those foods.

A decade or two later, they will have added so many 'healthy' foods to the voucher list, while simultaneously banning 'unhealthy' foods (which they have been doing all along, of course... like starting decades ago), that grocery stores will go out of business.

Once they're out of business, the gov't will begin switching raw voucher foods for cooked meals. This will happen a little at a time over a few years. Until the end result is the need to visit a gov't food distribution center three times a day.

Sadly, I don't think I'm making an allegory at all. This directly parallels what happened with public schools, but I think the food issue is not far fetched. I see it. In my lifetime.

And those crazy enough to maintain their own gardens (homefooding?) will be fringe and weird. And how on Earth can you socialize with the rest of the community if you're picking your own tomatoes instead of gathering at the distribution center for salad?

Amie is right, this is possible, probable even! The government knows that the only way for people to accept government control would be for them to make small changes over the course of YEARS until eventually they have complete control and the american people have no choice but to accept it!
